Found these cute little charms at the craft store yesterday and converted them to stitch markers. It was nice making time for a tiny spark of creativity, even if it wasn’t long or involved. I’m looking forward to using these when I cast on the pair to my sock in progress. #art #knittingtools

Happy Sunday. Behold my sock! I hope you did something good for yourself. I spent the weekend #knitting, chilling, napping, and regulating. What were you up to?

Sunday. Coffee, errands, sourdough, bones and garnet, thinking about painting, laundry, thinking about making dinner, laundry, shakes fist at patriarchy, dog snuggles, salad on the couch. I’ll be listing this pendant to my store sometime this week. #oneofakindjewelry #talisman #bonejewelry

It’s all about baking creativity this weekend. I have fallen down the #sourdough rabbit hole. #foodisart

Patina and polish today, maybe some stone setting between making sourdough. This weekend was for rest. My work trip was rough on top of all the horrors (gesticulates vaguely). So, I’m all about making joy when I can, I’m baking bread (I have no experience in this) and getting this pendant done #art

I hoped to get more progress done with this pendant. But yesterday was a doozy hosting 15 teenagers for my kid’s summer party, and today was for recovering. This week will be intense at work, so I won’t finish until next weekend. But that’s all right, it gives me something to look forward to. #art

My studio is calling to me today. I gave it some tlc, finally cleaned up, vacuumed, got rid of some stuff. I knew I wanted to make something, and somehow landed on this garnet and silver bone—it’s calling to be an amulet. Let’s see how far I get, it’s been a while. #art #silversmith

I switched to the fur for a bit. It was uncomfortable. My mantra is—what do I really see. Our brains are quick to assume, eager to fill in the blanks. Painting is forcing that to slow down. Reminding my brain that I don’t want it to work right now, I want my senses to do it. #oilpainting #art

Oil painting is training me to let go and trust the process. It’s will work out eventually, but the in-between can be very messy, kinda ugly, and full of doubt. Last night, I stepped back and started to see things to adjust and things started to fall into place. #art #oilpainting

I spent my last day of vacation starting a new painting and listening to Edward Rutherford’s epic novel “China”. Painting the opossum was great fun that I’m trying my hand at a hyrax. They’re such derpy little guys and I’m obsessed with their fangs. #hyrax #newpainter #arteveryday #learningtopaint

The opossum is done! Even while studying #art in undergrad, oil painting seemed intimidating Now, 20+ years later I have the courage and curiosity to do it. I’ve learned so much about trusting the process and myself. I hope you’re doing ok. If you’re feeling lost, take an art class. #newpainter

Another derpy #medevialmarginalia owl. They are so goofy and fun to draw and only take a few minutes. It’s a great way to not take myself too seriously. I’ve been too serious lately. Everything is too serious right now, it’s awful. How are you holding up? #art #derpysketch #arteveryday

First #oilpainting semester done. The opossum is nearly there. I have a few finishing touches to the toe beans and the body fur that I’ll get to this weekend. I am so happy with how it turned out, and I am so inspired to keep learning. #art #newoilpainter #artallthetime

I’ve been studying drawing and painting lately. It’s been a nice calming path to tread at the end of the day. Here’s a quick sketch of a medieval marginalia owl I did while waiting for dinner. I love these derpy little guys, and especially that some monk or lady illuminator conceived of them #art

My planar fruit is looking planar. They were dry enough this evening that I was able to scrape off flat planes all over their surfaces. Handling clay is a joy, the act of scraping was like a weighted blanket on my psyche. Hopefully I’ll be able to clean these up and paint them over the weekend. #art

In this psychotic timeline, learning how to #oilpaint has been a balm. It regulates my nervous system that’s ready to crash any minute. I’m going all in studying basic forms and value until it clicks. A good way is to use planar fruit models (expensive!), so I’m making my own out of #clay. #art

I put in a lot of work on the #opossum painting and it still looks like an opossum. Not gonna lie, the prospect of painting fur had me in a bit of a panic. But many youtube videos later, I got what looks like fur. Let’s see what my instructor says about it on Thursday. #art #newoilpainter

I’m so glad it still looks like an opossum. Our homework was to fill in the background based on values and it’s harder than it looks. It felt great to slow way down to a whisper—that looks greenish, yellowish, with a little brown, and just a tiny bit of blue, and a teensy bit of white. #art

#everydayart I’m at the beach for a work conference. It is cold and the waves are calm. Looking at the ocean is always good for an existential perspective. The ocean is massive, and I am not.

We were assigned our animals today in oil painting class and I got the opossum. It was so good to have my brain stop chattering for a few hours. Work has been so rough (waves hand at uncertain times). Next week we learn color mixing—terrifying but also exhilarating. #art #oilpainting #opossum

A Name
When Eve walked among the animals and named them—nightingale, red-shouldered hawk, fiddler crab, fallow deer—I wonder if she ever wanted them to speak back, looked into their wide wonderful eyes and whispered, Name me, name me

Took my first #oilpainting class last night. It was a little terrifying, very hard, but forced me to slow down my frantic nervous system. Much like my other endeavors, it was meditative and rooted me in the present. Also, my big project may be painting a raccoon or an opossum. I am excited.

I am self-soothing by taking on more #art projects. I decided I also need to make a pair of #knittedsocks, you know, for the winter. My project list: said knitted socks, crocheting granny squares, smithing some tower rings, taking oil painting classes, patch jacket What are you up to?

As promised, here’s what I aspire to. This was a blanket crocheted by my Granny Goose before she died. She spent most of her last years reclined in bed, making blankets for her loved ones. I asked for a blanket that used her leftover yarn. Note the fine gauge! 🧶 #craftisart #crochet #grannysquares
