Stretched along the sun-warmed stone wall beside the pool, Agostina Belli props herself on one elbow, chin resting on her hand as she smiles coyly over her shoulder. The pale, almost transparent dress clings wetly to every curve, the thin fabric outlining her breasts, the dip of her waist, and the full swell of her hips and bottom. One bare thigh is exposed where the hem has ridden high, while flowering shrubs and still water frame her, the whole pose radiating quiet, sun-drenched invitation.

Perched on the round ottoman with one long, stockinged leg stretched out and the other bent, the blonde beauty lets her cropped jacket fall open to reveal the full curve of her breasts. Sheer nylons cling to her thighs, held taut as her fingers rest possessively on the soft skin just above the garter. Dark lipstick and a cool, direct gaze meet the camera while discarded high heels and a scrap of lace lie on the carpet at her feet, the heavy curtains behind her framing a quiet, thoroughly indecent invitation.

A detailed editorial illustration depicts a petite auburn-haired woman squeezed between gridlocked traffic and a sprawling construction site overlooking Boston. She wears a black lace corset dress with gartered stockings and heeled boots, while a cream coat hangs loosely from her shoulders. Her windswept hair and weary expression suggest exasperation rather than glamour alone. Cars choke the descending street behind her as cranes, excavators, scaffolding and unfinished concrete consume the opposite side. Autumn foliage and warm evening light beautify an otherwise claustrophobic scene, contrasting sensual elegance with the congestion, relentless development and diminishing personal space of contemporary Greater Boston.

His dark hair is neatly combed and he wears a prominent moustache, while his steady gaze and upright posture give the portrait a confident, businesslike character. Behind him, wood-panelled walls and shelves filled with books and recordings create a warmly informal setting. Several American footballs bearing the name ‘Mike Ditka’ occupy the shelf at left, providing the clearest sporting context. The subdued earth tones, straightforward composition and period furnishings give the photograph an unmistakably late-twentieth-century atmosphere.

One of the great steakhouses of the world through at least the 1990s. As so often happens with businesses after a few decades, though, the quality went way downhill, and the place hath now been shuttered for years. The cactus sign doth remain as a Route One fixture, though. {photo: Boston Globe}

A colour photograph captures the bustling exterior of the Hilltop Steak House, its long timbered veranda crowded with patrons in distinctly 1970s attire. Large red roadside signs rise above the building at left, while the restaurant’s familiar black-and-white cattle statues stand amid meticulously clipped hedges and flower beds. A small child wanders amongst the figures as adults congregate along the wooden railing, some conversing and others watching the activity outside. Warm lanterns illuminate the shaded porch, contrasting with the bright afternoon beyond. The composition evokes the restaurant at the height of its popularity, combining roadside spectacle, rustic architecture and the convivial atmosphere of a busy local landmark.
