Watch her get no credit for suspending the tax and then get slaughtered for putting it back up when prices go down. Would love to have politicians who can think beyond next week.

(Laying the groundwork to have the democratic candidate/party to support you before hand is also part of the scam)

To be honest, the art of the independent-in-name-only scam is having background that is credibly non-partisan and having appeal outside of the usual democratic coalition. Bodnar is a university administrator and former democrat. I struggle to believe anyone is buying it. He's no Dan Osborne.

...has Zack Polanski seen his own approval ratings? Not to mention a whole new swath of voters who are about to learn his thoughts on hypnotherapy-induced breast augmentation. Him being the candidate makes it a much harder win for the greens.

Not to mention the constant undertone of "Acemoglu finds X but doesn't consider Y" as they ignore the Y of his generational contribution to the field of economics.

Just read it and... wow. Distinctly reminds me of being an undergraduate in economics and trying to include critiques of groundbreaking research (including Acemoglu's) in essays just because you felt like you weren't supposed to not swallow it whole. I didn't believe it; just filling page.

Claudine Gay was basically railroaded though (you did a whole episode on it!), that isn't a fair comparison to this.

For example: a statistically impossible number of polls in 2024 had the race tied, because pollsters were so worried about getting it wrong. www.natesilver.net/p/theres-mor...

There’s more herding in swing state polls than at a sheep farm in the Scottish Highlands
Some pollsters aren’t telling you what their data really says.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Un... All the polls sponsored by pro-Stevens orgs say she's the better candidate. All the polls sponsored by El-Sayed orgs says he's the better candidate. Since 2024 cycle, we have really strong evidence that public polling is manipulated to suit a narrative.

The fact that he did many things wrong to pass off many different interest groups is exactly the point. You realise that that's worse right?

Literally cannot understand what makes you think you have enough information the assert this so confidently. You could only beleive this by viewing british politics through a telescope.

Doesn't change the fact that it would be inflationary, which after 5 years of above target inflation will add to inflation expectations.

Had a look through the list, I could see literally anyone leaving except Danso, Gray, Maddison, Spence, Odobert and Kulusevski. The rest are either not good enough for us or would attract interest and might want to leave.

In 2024 Mackerfield was the best reform performance in the ENTIRE northwest and their best performance in any labour-won seat in the country. He couldn't have picked a harder seat if he tried.

Equally, ideologies exist within a certain context. To be a zionist in the 21st century can only really refer to the actually existing state of Israel and its war against palestinians, not the idealised utopian Israel of 20th century Liberal zionism.
040
Ongo Gablogian @arthurdarcy.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
If supporters of Israel can still loudly and proudly call themselves zionists, isn't your proposal merely unilateral disarmament?

Isn't the lesson of Vance's disastrous speech in Hungary that American politicians jetting around the world telling other people how to think is counterproductive? I can't see how you look at the public reaction to MAGA-internationalism and say "we need a Liberal version of that"

It's a fair point to an extent, but they also socialise with other MPs and journalists more than 99% of people which I think does much more to shape their worldview. It's a fairly clique-ish group.

For once I don't agree this is a fair statement. Post-war in Iran inflation figures will be much higher than 2.4%, we just don't have the March rate yet. That is 100% Trump's fault, whereas Carter and Biden victims of energy price shocks largely out of their control.

If the Lib Dems want to stop Farage they should demand we strengthen democratic accountability, not weaken it. Focus energy on destroying the electoral system that would allow him to win a majority with a small minority of the vote share.

Neoconservative was an intellectual ideology and philosophy. Trumpist-Hegsethism is the caveman logic of making America the alpha-male country by regularly killing people in smaller, weaker countries.

Consumers are now paying twice. The first time when they bought imported goods for higher prices, and the second time when they pay higher taxes to refund businesses. A fucking disaster.
