I’m a geek and I take pretty pictures. I like music too. And puppies. And kittens. Adding rainbows and unicorns. And J.R.R. Tolkien, who should have written about rainbow unicorns. portfolio.artgeek.biz Links at gravatar.com/tryonk

This is another cast of the same statue at the Rochester airport. I just wish we were better at honoring his legacy in more than public art.

Pretty sure the cemetery predated the hospital—it was designed in the 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted. Cemeteries were used as parks then. This is a meeting background I created for work featuring a Douglass statue in another Olmsted park near the hospital. olmsted.org/frederick-law-olm...

Where was this taken? We travel a long way by the Susquehanna on trips from Rochester NY to Williamsburg VA, and this view looks familiar. Not sure, but I may be remembering Harrisburg.

Heh. I work in a hospital, and there is a cemetery across the street (Frederick Douglass is buried there).

Yeah, this stinks. My wife and I volunteer at our local zoo, and I love our brother and sister grey wolves, even if Timber does hide whenever he sees me. Idiots hate what they don't understand.

Gorgeous day for a bike ride, even if it was to get a cavity filled. In case you're wondering, yes, it is possible to take photographs with numb lips. #photography #EastCoastKin #WesternNY #FallFoliage

Friends of mine worked at the Shelburne Museum, and growing up, friends of my parents lived outside Middletown Springs. Lovely country.

I have five siblings, and we couldn't afford touristy stuff as a kid, so shortly after we were married, my wife and I did the whole tacky and glorious tour. I wouldn't do that again, but once was fun.

I loved the Wild Atlantic Way. I told our driver he could drop me at the Arran Islands and come back in a week (which was about when the weather might have let boat travel resume).

We get some lake effect snow in Rochester, but nothing like Watertown (east of Lake Ontario). They get more like 15 feet.

We stopped only long enough for a few snapshots. I hadn't noticed before a few hardy souls wearing Mackinaws and wading in the surf. My kind of people. 😏

My wife and I took a tour of #Ireland in August 2025—from cloudless days in Dublin to the tail end of a hurricane, we had plenty of #weather. I actually dehazed some of these shots—the fog was even thicker than it appears. #photography #BlueskyArtShow #EastCoastKin

To summarize: - There are tools available that can probably do this for you. - Word (and most word processors) stink at math. - The simplest path would be to format your equations in a tool intended for that, then drop them into Pages or Word.

ArtGeek (Ken Tryon) @artgeek.biz · 08/10/2026
I use Calibre but hadn't thought of it for conversion.

ArtGeek (Ken Tryon) @artgeek.biz · 08/10/2026
Just seeing this—so you're on a Mac. Whatever tool you're using for the math, see if it will output just the equations as PDF, then drop them into your Pages document as images. That should export cleanly to Word.

A lot of academic writing apps use Markdown, which is basically a way to write HTML that is also readable as plain text. Most also rely on Pandoc to format their output or convert to Word or PDF.

Typora costs about $20, has math support, and may export to Word.

Zettlr is an excellent tool that is (I believe) free:

If you want to convert *from* PDF, you'll probably need to use a conversion tool with AI that can export to a typesetting format like Latex or a math formatting tool. There are lots of Markdown editors with math support, but then you still have the problem of getting it into Word.

ArtGeek (Ken Tryon) @artgeek.biz · 08/10/2026
If you can recreate just the formulas and export them as small PDFs or SVG, that would be even better. EPS format might work—it's basically the same as PDF, but PDF is much more common now.

ArtGeek (Ken Tryon) @artgeek.biz · 08/10/2026
Pandoc converts documents between all kinds of file formats. It could work for you if you're comfortable with the Windows or MacOS command line.

ArtGeek (Ken Tryon) @artgeek.biz · 08/10/2026
The problem with Word is that Word doesn't do math. You'll probably have to create your formulas as image files and drop them into the Word document. It's fairly simple to export a PDF to a PNG file with at least 300dpi resolution, then crop out just the parts you need.

We get turkey vultures in western NY, but it would take some doing to get a shot from above. Maybe in the Adirondacks or at Chimney Bluffs on Lake Ontario.

Do you know if the Chrome filter will work on a 720nm conversion, or does it require full spectrum? I can check the Kolari site too.

With the right atmospheric conditions, you can just see the tip of the CN tower from Hamlin. It should be below the horizon, but temperature changes can bend the light slightly. There is a tiny line above the horizon, just left of center.
CN Tower. Yup, it's there.
