a few years ago, I interviewed @thepinkcurator.bsky.social on TMQ to lament the lack of good chariot racing games. This week, a mobile game dev reaches out to tell me that article struck a chord with them and they made a good chariot racing game 🥹💖

anyway, the other day someone asked me “why do you add the sword to your book autograph?” and the truth is. it’s not even because the book has swords. it’s because when I met one of my favorite artists @schweizercomics.bsky.social he drew a sword in the book I was getting signed, and when +

The Ferghana hose is an extinct breed originating in Central Asia and known as the "heavenly horse" in China. We got valuable insight from horse art historian @thepinkcurator.bsky.social on what their conformation might have looked like, based on surviving figurines, pottery and descriptions!

oh my love of writing father/son scenes #wipsnips
“I’ve not always done right by you, Oste. But you have me. You do. I don’t always understand you, and I won’t, but I’m here.”
Oste buried his head into his father’s shoulder. “I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything. Lord knows I don’t say much, myself.”
And so the two lingered there at the table with a bullet sitting on its surface. Oste let himself be rocked in an ageless embrace from a father he’d run from as much as he’d run into the arms of. That was their way. He assumed it would be until their bodies were dust. Different, and the same. Distant, and together. A son who wanted to be a better son. A father who wanted to be a better father. Neither of them knew what that meant.

This is James Young Simpson's travelling medicine chest. Simpson designed the chest, which has his initial "S" on the lid. It contains bottles, cups and measures to administer medicine to patients.
Mahogany chest fitted with brass bail handles and a door enclosing drawers. The top also opens up to reveal more compartments.

this observation actually comes from horse historian @thepinkcurator.bsky.social, who shares tons such interesting thoughts on the intersection of games and art history in the TMQ community. Go follow her and/or hire her, she's amazing and I stole this joke from insights she shared.

For my last #QuestPit thread for the night, I have included several passages from WHERE WE BURY OUR DEER, a Celtic saga. Though this village has long since turned to dust, theirs is a story that should never be forgotten. In 52 BCE, lives changed forever. #HF #A #HistoricalFiction #Gaul
We are forbidden from writing our hymns in full, but this is what the Romans heard in our local tongue at the moment they started to realize they might have been wrong.

“Cecaname-nīs cantlon tou cloustī.”

We sang the song for you to hear.

52 BCE. King Vercingetorix is defeated at Alesia. The citizens of Gaul defending their homes don't know what's going to happen, only that nothing will ever be the same. WHERE WE BURY OUR DEER is a Celtic odyssey following the victims of Roman colonialism on a bog in Bretagne. #QuestPit #Q #HF #A

Egyptian Prosthetic Toe, c.950-710 B.C.E. Egyptians took great pains to have the bodies of their dead buried intact. Some mummified remains are found with makeshift limbs and false eyes. This toe is so well made, however, that archaeologists believe it was also used in life.
A wooden prosthetic of a big toe which appears to have slid over the stump of the missing toe.
