#FreeFantasyArt -Today's the penultimate day of this series-so I'm finally repeating possibly the most prolific creator, Deevad: "Fediverse Doom Grey color challenge" by David Revoy www.peppercarrot.com/en/viewer/mi... Artist's Site: www.davidrevoy.com License: CC-BY 4.0 BSky: @davidrevoy.com
An almost entirely grey image, with the main point of colour being a glowing lantent that hangs from a stick on an ox that's being ridden by a young boy with a large load of luggage. The other light source are the eyes of sinister-looking figures wreathed in shadow behind him. The entire landscape is sharp and sinister, but too smoky and grey to make out details.

One thing that I do with my edits that not a lot of people do with their art is that I release my working files alongside them. I fully understand why this is a lot more effort - and honestly, it can feel like showing off unfinished sloppy work - but I really appreciate that today's artist does.🧵

The hobbling of the public domain is just so frustrating - as the world changes faster, we live in a world where copyright lasts longer than ever - and not just new copyrights, but retroactively applied to every work of art, every piece of creativity, to ensure corporate ownership of culture.

#JanuaryWorldbuilders Within Matlaktlome food is rarely an issue outside the cities - the rainforest is well managed by its inhabitants, who ensure that there is always food within reach for those in tune with nature; and troop deployments are generally too small-scale to stretch those resources.🧵

#JanuaryWorldbuilders There are two main wars: 1] Matlatktlome is under invasion by the Tetocani who serve under the Broodmother. They believe non-hive creatures are lesser, and need to be ruled by Queens. The protagonists are not currently involved in this war, although they've met rogue Tetocani.

#JanuaryWorldbuilders In Matlaktlome, the most common are knives, clubs and spears - simple to make, easy to replace, and easy to learn. Axes and machete are also reasonably common, being tools that can be viciously effective in combat. More advanced weapons are generally swords or macuahuitl.🧵

#JanuaryWorldbuilders It's mostly simple, and minimalistic woven clothing - the heat can get unbearable if you're overdressed, the rain can bog down clothing, and you don't need to create your own shade when the trees provide. In lieu of clothing fashions, skin-painting and jewelry are very popular.

One issue plaguing Altepetl society that recurs a lot is the issue of religion and superstition. See, the gods are trapped outside of the world by the same magic that holds demons at bay, and thus they aren't exactly active. Which leaves a lot of room for people to declare that ritual sacrifice🧵

#JanuaryWorldbuilders In Matlaktlome, it is good manners to offer your guest the space closest to the river - if there are multiple nearby branches, then whichever is closest - some associate this with freedom to leave, others with the river as a source of life, either way the rule persists.
