“Detroit Brooks and Friends at the Dew Drop”. Oil on linen 16”-20”. This was a great concert at one of my favorite venues. A room full of music history. #oilpainting #art #oiloncanvas #blueskyartshow
Oil painting of Detroit Brooks and Friends playing at the Dew Drop Jazz and Social Hall in southern Louisiana Louisiana. Pictures are 7 musicians starting from the left: the drummer, Detroit Brooks on the Trombone, the bassist, trumpet, clarinetist , guitar, and pianist. The back wall shows the old peeling paint with remnants of the original decorations from its church days. A few hats hang on the wall along with a small bottle on a shelf. The foreground shows the heads of the audience and the famous sign positioned near the bottom.

I am pleased with the heron. A blue wave disturbing the calm waters. She stepped inches from us in the sculpture garden at NOMA gracing us with a rare moment to capture her magnificence. 24”x48” oil on cotton canvas #oilpainting #art #oiloncanvas #blueskyartshow
Oil painting of a great blue heron wading through shallow water at the New Orleans museum of art sculpture garden. Walking left to right the heron breaks the calm waters exposing the dark depths. The heron’s reflection precedes it distorted by otherwise calm waters.

I took a picture of my palette on my painting stand. For some reason it looks like a room, like the studio space I wish I had to work in. Changing perspective, I saw something I wanted more now than ever. #oilpainting #art

Finished Knife to Flowers series: #12 Time passing, 11x14”, oil on wood panel I have so much fun painting this series, it’s such a nice break to be completely loose and free with a palette knife. #oilpainting #art #oiloncanvas #blueskyartshow

I did a 30 minute painting fundraiser for our local art house in Covington, LA. I was the only one that started with a blank canvas and finished with this. I didn’t win but it was fun and I’m looking forward to the auction! 16x20” oil on cotton canvas. #13 in Knife to Flowers series.

Sometimes I have to switch up and make happier paintings. Much as I love painting the No Horizon series, it can be lonely. Here a nearly finished addition in the Knife to Flowers series: #12 Time passing, 11x14”, oil on wood panel #oilpainting #art #blueskyartshow
Oil paining in heavy impasto textures of a lavender colored flower in a red vase. The vase is set on a dark patchwork surface of deep purples and dark reddish colors and a background of bright greens and blues. The flower dropped two petals on the surface near its shadow.

It’s a small space, but it’s my space to paint. Working on another piece for my #NoHorizon series taken on the Gulf of Mexico a few years ago on my way to Art in the Pass, Pass Christian MS. #artdaviller #oilpainting #oiloncanvas
Photo of a small artist oil painting area with an easel on the left and a plywood cart with a glass pallet on top. The easel has a painting of a cat grooming on the bottom and a painting of the Mississippi gulf coast above from the shoreline on a foggy day. There are a lot of stickers adorning the easel.

“Murder scene?”, oil on linen, 30”x 20”, another in my knife to Flowers series. A whodunnit of horticultural horror, or not. You be the judge. I have one more step to finish it but it must dry first. I’m just happy with the painting and wanted to share. #oilpainting #art #painting #artdaviller
Oil painting on linen canvas measuring 20” x 30”. The background has the light pastel colors of a beautiful morning, sunrise, creating an impressionistic sky framing the flowers in vases. One purple, one green-yellow, one orang-red, and one blue, each with one or two expressive flowers. The painting is finished with black oil, pastel line work, outlining the vibrant colors of the foreground and background.

#9 “First one, then many” from my No Horizon series, 14”x11” Oil on wood panel. From time spent contemplating in the foggy Irish Bayou morning. I would sometimes stop here when the fog set in for a few peaceful moments when driving to and from #NewOrleans. #oilpainting #art #painting #artdaviller

Watering the garden is second to oil painting on my list of most meditative, relaxing, and introspective things to do. Sometimes I have to stop and stare at a flower for a while and think about their importance to my life. All life.
A close-up picture of a yellow flower with a hazy background of a brick path. Perched on the flower is a tiny green grasshopper. This was taken in my garden today, June 4 2025.

Way too much global politics. How about a flower. #9 Alone, Knife to Flowers series, oil and pastel on wood panel, 11x14”. We ask so much and take more, the flower gives and gives. Cut it and you still see beauty. #oilpainting #artdaviller #painting #art #flowerpainting

This was hard for me. I just dropped off two of my paintings as part of a local art association member gallery exhibit, or in my head “I don’t want to sell these, no one will want to buy them” doubt-o-rama obstacle course. #blueskyartshow #oilpainting #art #painting

I think of each painting as an individual challenge, here is a larger Nude Study, oil on canvas, 24-30”. I am fascinated by the depth some artists achieve with skin tone, texture, and depth. #oilpainting #art #painting #blueskyartshow
Oil painting on canvas of a woman sitting on a towel draped chat facing away, arms raised as she lifts her hair. The painting completed with a minimal 5 color palette on a textured oil ground.

I never got to see these bloom but I did get to see them while o was in SD. I was gifted jacaranda seeds to start a bonsai and I cannot wait for them to reach bloom so I can paint them. Wonderful work. The painting I did was from the bay sans bloom.

My friend, a Dr, musician, and artist always cooks exceptionally great Indian food when go over for painting sessions. Once, I painted his spice rack and gifted it to his fascinating parents during a visit from India. #oilpainting #painting #art #stilllife

Afternoon on Dumaine, oil on canvas, 24-30”. Another palette knife painting in my French Quarter series. Caught in a siren song, I wandered the gilded streets, music conjuring old struggles of lost love. #NewOrleans #oilpainting #BlueskyArtShow #art #Painting
Oil painting of the corner of Dumaine in the New Orleans French Quarter with a young woman playing the most seductively sad saxophone on the sidewalk near the Clover Grill. The painting is thickly textured from palette knife painting showing the afternoon sky and the years of pedestrian wear on the sidewalk.

1st in my series No Horizon, oil on canvas. On my way to Arts in the Pass years ago in MS, I walked out on the beach, the fog embraced all, muting the trickle of waves. All quiet, I took a few pics when the flock appeared and disappeared in a moment in time gifted to me. #oilpainting #art #painting
Oil painting of a dense fog looking out on the water from Pass Christian, MS, a flock of migratory birds fade in and out of the fog over the water muted still waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The horizon is lost in the fog along with any details of the water or the sky.

“I’m sorry for your loss”, oil on linen. The anger I feel towards Russia and what they have done to Ukraine, the loss of life and devastation, can sometimes be crippling. So many innocent people lost at the hands of a thug. #oilpainting #ukraine

Aw hell, guess I’m doing drywall today instead of gardening and oil painting… I suppose that’s better than a trip to the ER. I ears investigating animal sounds in the attic, braced myself against support beam that, well, wasn’t supportive. I wish I could have seen my face at that moment.

Oil painting of a foggy morning looking east from Irish Bayou north of New Orleans. The horizon disappears in the fog with grassy wetlands in the distance. A moment of tranquility.

I can’t help but walk out to the shore on a good foggy morning. Hushed and quiet, there is no horizon, just the whispers of what is beyond. No Horizon 2, oil on wood panel, 11-14”. I’m not sure if I’m done yet, still looking at it. #oilpainting #art #NewOrleans
Painting of four weather pier columns in placid water on a foggy morning with wetland grasses fading in the distance. The sun glows in the reflection on the water and the horizon is lost to the fog.

My favorite part about painting is when I step back and look and think this is how it’s meant to be. Oil on wood panel 11-14” #oilpainting #art #painting #artdaviller
I have painted a flower in a vase in a corner of the room and the shadow of it stretches to
the left. The water in the vase is tilted implying imbalance. The vase is clear and the shadow is colorfully prismatic.
