Common Knowledge (excerpt) The year is 2031. Ferris F. Fairbanks is the second-term Chancellor of the League of American States. The divisive Chancellor has proved himself both decisive and aggressive, taking firm control of the LAS through what many consider to be extra-constitutional means, manipulating voter rolls and subverting the electoral processes. His government is now challenging term limits on the office of Chancellor, and, despite widespread dissent, Fairbanks is running for an unprecedented third term.

Happy Family: 1922 has been a tragic year for the White family. In January, the young and vibrant Mary White was involved in a fatal car accident, having driven her Packard off the edge of the Odettoma Bridge during a winter snowstorm. Now, it is late October, and Jon and Mary’s oldest boy, Richard, has gone missing, possibly lost in the dense forests around their rural homestead.

As a long-time role-player and student of the mystical, one would expect to have a firmer grasp of the idea and function of magic in the real world. (Real magic: is that a contradiction in terms?) Yet, I have always found this subject to be a fly in the ointment when it comes to role-playing games and their implementation of magical systems.
