Here’s a ghosted version of flipping through the pages.

The writing kit: Muji pouch, earbuds, two small notebooks, Kindle, three hand-bound books, an assortment of printouts, two pens (black and red) and two crayons (green and blue)

I experience it as a pernicious little identitarian devil lurking in my mind, asking to pin myself down, to reject opacity. It manifests materially as the pathetic labor of résumé → LinkedIn → personal website... and yet, when I find a nice tidy bio, what reassurance it gives!

Main addition was an affordance to easily "pin" a line into context, with the same kind of selection + keyboard shortcut approach.

This feels fundamentally different to a chat interface. The context is always available to be edited and tweaked. There is no distinction between user-input and machine-output.

Second one, ~50loc, is to just use visual selections for context and dump outputs directly into Vim.

First dead simple, ~100loc, LLM interface is getting input and piping outputs to dmenu. Selections get copied to the clipboard to be used elsewhere.

dmenu is pretty awesome—cat a file for a list of bookmarks, show a selection menu with fuzzy matching, and then open the selection in the browser. First time I've used a proper UI component inside of a bash/unix pipe workflow.

Bitmap computing: All state is visible in the bitmap. The filename is whatever is in the header. To open a file, draw/type the name and call LOAD.

Poll: do you add whitespace to line up related definitions? A: Yes, visual parallelism is essential for comprehension. B: Yes, but only when I'm sharing the code with others. C: No, I'm not OCD, I just let the formatter do its thing. D: No, waste of my time, it's all machine code in the end.

As I fail to parse the incessant stream of contemporary news, I've been looking for a solid foundation to stand on. This is one of those lists that you inevitably regret 5 years down the line, but felt important to jot down today. Some political principles—

If all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail. That's actually a Modernistic saying. You'll note that carpenters are allowed to choose whether or not to use hammers. They can use saws and tape measures if they choose, too. www.wall.org/~larry/pm.html
