Though I am happy he got some better pain killers and they're helping a lot. Sorry for this absolute wall of text it's just a lot but things are getting better. We all feel strained but we're holding on together.

On that note the sad news is my dad still isn't fully himself. He's still thinking he's 23 and can do anything which often results in him hurting himself. He's improved a bit mentally, he seems more aware of everything but still has these moments of confusion and sudden bursts of mania.

My mom admitted she just doesn't have the strength to go on forever (we milk an old fashioned tie stall barn too) and it would be better to bring someone else on. Especially with how Dad and her are doing they'd feel better knowing D and I are both here looking after their herd.

It's been something we've wanted to do together since we were kids, run the farm together alongside my brother. The fact that's actually coming true and Duncan's projected to join us around November still feels unreal to me but I'm genuinely so happy.

That's where the other insane good news comes in: THEY BOTH WANT TO HIRE @deerabou.bsky.social AND BRING HIM ON FULL TIME AS A MILKER WITH ME ;u; I can't tell y'all how huge this is even though it's been insanely overwhelming for all parties involved.

And even though he isn't milking the cows as much now (that's me and mom) he's still doing long ass days but he is trying to do more things HE wants to do. My mother has also been struggling physically and mentally and all of this has taken a toll on her.

He's started some new medication and it seems to be helping. He's still not sleeping which is the biggest concern. He might only get 3 hrs of sleep a night before the pain wakes him up again. Staying still too long also causes him to seize up but too much and the pain just gets worst.

He told her about his pain and literally every accident he's been in (which ranges from car crashes that almost took his life, to being beaten and mauled by cows to whole ass tree's falling on him) and she took it all very seriously so he's got SO. MANY. TESTS. to do now.

An update on my dad and everything atm. The good news: My mom miraculously got an appointment with our family doctor last Monday and my dad willingly went (that's huge) and was very honest about everything (that's even more huge and I'm so proud of him).

I'm hoping to make a proper health update soon regarding my dad and family. There's been so many highs and lows it's been crazy. The situation also changes daily. Farm work has been eating me alive too but I'm hanging in there. 👍

My sister comes and milks the cows with me during the evenings and both my parents want to hire Duncan in the future which would be amazing. Everyone deserves time to rest and I reassured my dad we're all responsible and here to support each other. I just hope we can move forward together.

I'm just relieved he agreed and seemed to take what my mom, bro and I were saying to heart. Currently no one on the farm gets days off. We've all been working for years like this and it needs to stop, it's literally destroying us.

I told him he NEEDS to set boundaries with his work and talk to our family doctor about how much pain he's in. I know they may not be able to do much since he's got arthritis really bad but we need to try. Medicating with alcohol just isn't the way man. It's crazy how allergic farmers are to help.

He had an episode back in '22 that got him hospitalized and officially diagnosed with psychosis so we were afraid that was happening again. He's overworked, in constant pain from doing 16 hr days for years and desperately needs time off even though he won't take it. Oh he has insomnia too.

I already knew this but tldr dad is depressed, took to drinking again to feel something. We're pretty sure he has bipolar or something similar, when he gets something in his system it's like he's 20 again and can take on the world (he's 63). He literally becomes the Tasmanian devil with extra mania
