European policymakers are becoming increasingly hyperbolic about the threat Chinese producers pose to the continent's industrial base. As industrial giants such as Volkswagen restructure and slash jobs, fears of a new China shock are reaching fever pitch.

Someone should tell Sky News

Not to diminish the overall point about how screwed we are with the climate, but the forecast is quite different as of today. The Met's website also shows highs of 31 degrees C on Monday and Tuesday.

It’s not quite the funniest thing he could have done. But it’s top 5.

Hospital. London. Dinner. I’m baffled that one one thought to flag that serving a dinner of fish and chips heated in a sealed container was a very bad idea. The potato and fish swam in a pool of condensation. 🧵
Soggy fired fish, chips swimming in water, and mushy peas. At least the peas were meant to be mushy.

Apropos the talk of cutting benefits and services in the UK to save money, they key takeaway is: “just because you remove care, the need for it doesn't disappear.” Someone else bears the cost and nothing is saved. Great interview at @politicsjoe.bsky.social

I don’t know why his reply got cut off in your screenshot but thought other people might want to see the rest of it. I mean, Trump’s back in power so the protests weren’t effectual but I figure he’s entitled to at least a full sentence. But yeah, congress is too old.
Post from Steve Cohen. Text includes: “No reason to think I'm not. Been on his case since 2016 protested his inauguration both 17 and 25 and his entire term and 17 to 21 and have not gotten off his case”

Same! Walnuts, mushrooms, red lentils, quinoa, spinach and more. It was way better than I expected.

Section from the book “How the railways will fix the future” by Gareth Dennis:

“The ultimate incentive: modal shift
To my mind, there's a simple answer to this question, and it provides the single unifying idea that everything else — organisational structure, lines of accountability, staff numbers, train lengths, number of tracks, levels of investment, you name it — can be quantitatively determined by.
That answer? Mode share.
The percentage of people and goods moved by rail versus other modes is a known, measurable and targetable value that can be determined at pan-national, national, regional, urban and indeed route levels. Setting a national target, allowing devolved authorities to set their own targets to deliver the national target, and in turn allowing transport authorities and railway managers to investigate and develop plans to deliver those targets at a service level shows us what the natural lines of communication need to be, which steers us towards an ideal structure for the railways.”

@garethdennis.bsky.social this section… 🤯 it’s so straightforward and obvious, but also such a revelation. (The rest of the book is also fantastic so far)
