Really interesting day at #IDDSIFestival2026. First time going. Bumped into former student Hannah Dawes, spoke to Ben Hanson, and even got a photograph with John Holahan aka Simply Thick John.

Interesting study from Claudia Krautkremer, Leanne Togher, and Louise Keegan about the use of role-playing games in rehab. I've used things like Rory's Story Cubes and some other things before so nice to see some formal research validating the approach. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

You are absolutely spot on. Transformers and Saw. Odd choices given the ages of the student. Saw was described as an old (!!!) horror movie 🫣😂

Discussing how to manage aphasia to second-year students today. Students took part in a PACE activity as client/SLT to demonstrate the difficulty in communicating something as simple as their favourite movie. Can you guess the movies from these pictures?

One for next year's teaching but happy to receive an inspection copy of Gilbertson and Henson's new book. Nice to see a resource which reflects the diversity of clinical caseloads (i.e. cognitive-communication disorder, prolonged disorder of consciousness, challenging behaviour)

A new week and Caroline Bowen and Pamela Snow's new book has just arrived on my door step. One for those who have, or work with, children with additional needs. Hope it is as good as the previous Making Sense which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Will consider it for next year. One of the topics that won an award this year is actually something I am planning to do in the next month or so. Are you able to say who is running the podcast and video interviews project? Would be nice to have a chat. Or pass on my details at least.

Richard Armstrong @armstrongslt.bsky.social · 21/11/2025
Indeed. I would have thought this sort of thing would easily win a @basaphasia.bsky.social grant. One of my first year students is a Welsh speaker. Maybe I can convince her to do this when she gets to her final year 😄

Thanks Pam. I think it is important to show people/students that not everyone knows what they want to do in school and people interests/careers change over time, and that is okay!

Sad to miss final-year undergraduate and last year's master's students graduate today. I was supposed to be on the stage! I had to teach physiotherapy students (though that was fun too). Watched the ceremony afterwards. MSc start at 30:50 and UG at 55:10. www.youtube.com/live/zj7w26v...
