the fact that chatgpt immediately decided that boy and girl are not mutually exclusive categories and built that into the truth table compelled me to share this
chatgpt image output after i told her about this thread, including a delightful truth table where boy, girl, and furry are treated as three separate boolean inputs (a feature that was not a part of my prompt and therefore means that GPT believes these are the three genders and they are not exclusive)

By this river I want to stay, thought Siddhartha, it is the same which I have crossed a long time ago on my way to the childlike people, a friendly ferryman had guided me then, he is the one I want to go to, starting out from his hut, my path had led me at that time into a new life, which had now grown old and is dead my present path, my present new life, shall also take its start there!
Tenderly, he looked into the rushing water, into the transparent green, into the crystal lines of its drawing, so rich in secrets.
Bright pearls he saw rising from the deep, quiet bubbles of air floating on the reflecting surface, the blue of the sky being depicted in it. With a thousand eyes, the river looked at him, with green ones, with white ones, with crystal ones, with sky-blue ones.
How did he love this water, how did it delight him, how grateful was he to it! In his heart he heard the voice talking, which was newly awaking, and it told him: Love this water! Stay near it!
Learn from it! Oh yes, he wanted to learn from it, he wanted to listen to it. He who would understand this water and its secrets, so it seemed to him, would also understand many other things, many secrets, all secrets.
But out of all secrets of the river, he today only saw one, this one touched his soul. He saw: this water ran and ran, incessantly it ran, and was nevertheless always there, was always at all times the same and yet new in every moment! Great be he who would grasp this, understand this! He understood and grasped it not, only felt some idea of it stirring, a distant memory, divine voices.Siddhartha bent down, picked up a stone from the ground, and weighed it in his hand.
"This here," he said playing with it, "is a stone, and will, after a certain time, perhaps turn into soil, and will turn from soil into a plant or animal or human being. In the past, I would have said:
This stone is just a stone, it is worthless, it belongs to the world of the Maya; but because it might be able to become also a human being and a spirit in the cycle of transformations, therefore I also grant it importance. Thus, I would perhaps have thought in the past. But today I think: this stone is a stone, it is also animal, it is also god, it is also Buddha, I do not venerate and love it because it could turn into this or that, but rather because it is already and always everything—and it is this very fact, that it is a stone, that it appears to me now and today as a stone, this is why I love it and see worth and purpose in each of its veins and cavities, in the yellow, in the gray, in the hardness, in the sound it makes when I knock at it, in the dryness or wetness of its surface. There are stones which feel like oil or soap, and others like leaves, others like sand, and every one is special and prays the Om in its own way, each one is Brahman, but simultaneously and just as much it is a stone, is oily or juicy, and this is the very fact which I like and regard as wonderful and worthy of worship.—But let me speak no more of this. The words are not good for the secret meaning, everything always becomes a bit different, as soon as it is put into words, gets distorted a bit, a bit silly—yes, and this is also very good, and I like it a lot, I also very much agree with this, that this what is one man's treasure and wisdom always sounds like foolishness to another person."

A two-panel “Know the Work Rules” meme featuring jj and git as a handsome coworker and nerdy coworker, respectively. Their merge conflicts have very different effects on their female coworker.

In the top “APPROPRIATE” panel, handsome jj wears a suit, and his face is the jujutsu logo; a terminal full of merge-conflict text obscures his torso. The female coworker beams and says, “Awww, you’re sweet,” with a heart floating nearby.

In the bottom “INAPPROPRIATE” panel, nerdy git wears a collared shirt and a sweater vest, with the git logo for a face and a code editor speech bubble showing a git merge conflict. The female coworker looks startled and clutches the phone, exclaiming, “Hello, Human Resources?!”

Detail of a Renaissance fresco showing two robed philosophers walking side by side through a grand classical hall.

The older man on the left, with white hair and beard, wears orange, white, and green robes and points upward with one hand while holding a book labeled “TIMEO” (The Timaeus).

The younger man on the right, with a shorter beard and brown hair, wears blue and brown robes and gestures forward with his palm down, holding a book labeled “ETICA” (Nicomachean Ethics) at his side.

Other classically dressed figures and stone architecture surround them.

in the US, originalists claim to interpret laws via the “original meaning” of the text, but usually they invent a meaning that fits the desired conservative/reactionary outcome. so when used as a pejorative, it sort of implies the opposite
a screenshot of wikipedia, saying:

by Justice Antonin Scalia, whose opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) became a defining—and divisive-statement of originalist reasoning. Critics, including many professional historians, have argued that Heller relied on selective or flawed historical analysis. Despite such criticism, originalism has grown in prominence since Scalia's tenure, especially with the appointments of Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett during the Trump administration. The philosophy played a central role in major rulings such as Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022), which overturned Roe v.
Wade. In response, some scholars and jurists, including Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, have advanced ideas of "progressive originalism." Meanwhile, critics contend that the Court's reliance on history has become inconsistent and politically driven, with Justice Sonia Sotomayor remarking that "history matters to this Court only when it is convenient."

Millions of beluga grads who grew up singing baby beluga
So for you a new verse

Making waves in the boundless bay
With your shining light and your dreams aliveFor the ones you've brought this way

Grown up beluga, grown beluga

Sing a song of peace
Sing a song of diversity

The meme where a woman reads from her phone about COVID policies and a man turns a calendar from “December 2020” to “January 1984”

But instead of COVID, the woman reads that “They’re banning Plato at the university”. And the man turns the calendar from “Texas 2026” to “Baghdad 1095.”

This is a reference to Al-Ghazali’s “Incoherence of the Philosophers,” though it’s a bit of a stretch because Ghazali didn’t exactly ban Plato, just criticize certain interpretations of his ideas.

a calm and curious hamster standing on his hind legs in an ambiguous setting, nothing else is really in frame except a brown floor and tan background

the hamster has a brown face and a white and brown body

to the side is the text “A bear was found inside it on Dec. 16”a hamster in a dead panic, the camera is blurry. the background looks like maybe a gray couch but it’s hard to tell.

this picture is popular in memes where the poster wants to depict panic; the picture is the first to come up when you google search “scared hamster”

below the hamster is the text “but officials said it was the wrong bear.”

From Wikipedia: Roll Safe is an Internet meme in which British filmmaker and actor Kayode Ewumi, while portraying the character Reece Simpson (also known as Roll Safe) in his own web series Hood Documentary, is seen tapping his finger on his head. The images are used, often with joking caption, to mock poor decision-making and failures in critical thinking, a common format being "You can't X, if there is no Y".

“3. Was it legal in practice?

Suppose that the killing did violate U.S. statutes prohibiting U.S. citizens from committing murder while abroad. Would this really violate "law"? …”Additional text from op’s blog showing asinine thought processes that can hardly be called reasoning.

“1. Was it moral and good?

Yes, I would say. If it is a choice between killing a drug runner and letting him be picked up by his friends so he can return to his immoral business, he should be killed. Note that I can say this confidently even if I don't believe in the death penalty for drug running. If I do, as many would do, then the question is even simpler.

2. Was it legal in theory?
This is a hard and subtle question...”

Bright blue: The United Kingdom
Muted blue: Countries which support the United Kingdom's claim
Green: Neutral countries which generally support the United Kingdom's claim
Bright red: Argentina
Red: Countries which support Argentina's claim
Muted red: Neutral countries which generally support Argentina's claim

Then there is some text describing the map…

The international position on the sovereignty of the islands is varied, with some countries supporting the British claim; with others supporting the Argentine claim. Some countries maintain a neutrality on the issue.

A graphic taken from an internet search for “regular polyhedra.” The shapes have 4, 6, 8, 12, and 20 sides (I think… it’s been a while since I had geometry)

The labels have been replaced with more familiar sounding names.

Pyramid
Cube
Brin
Haulm
Voughd

The shapes are blue with minimalist shading. Each was labeled with its proper name in black in the original. The labels of everything but the cube have been covered messily with gray rectangles with black text. The labels originally said:

Regular tetrahedron
Cube
Regular octahedron
Regular dodecagon
Regular icosahedron

The electoral map if a dem ran on “I’m going to put everyone in the Epstein emails—every Republican and every Democrat—in jail”
An electoral map from the website 270 to Win. Every state is blue.

There is a legend for what colors mean and where there are split vote districts, but it doesn’t matter because every single state is solid dark blue.

Across the top is a progress bar marking 270 electoral votes in the middle, democrats on the left, and Republicans on the right. It’s meant to show how close to victory either party is. It doesn’t matter because every single state is blue.

Two captioned frames from a scene in 30 Rock where Kenneth says:

“I don’t vote Republican or Democrat. Choosing is a sin, so I always just write in the Lord’s name!”

And Jack responds:

“That’s Republican, we count those”

The first frame shows Kenneth smiling innocently in the 30 Rock executive office. The second shows a side angle of Kenneth with the same smile, but Jack is looking at him sidelong with a condescending expression.

Not trying to be contrarian for its own sake, but a little context does make this make more sense, from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Issey_M...
Text from a Wikipedia article reading:

From a young age, Miyake respected artist Isamu Noguchi, whose novelty and sense of fun in his designs inspired Miyake. He was also inspired by fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet's use of geometric calculations and "a single piece of beautiful cloth". In Paris, he visited several museums and he mentioned
that he was influenced by sculptors such as Constantin Brâncusi and Alberto Giacometti. Miyake also developed a friendship with Apple's Steve Jobs, who came to him after seeing the uniforms Miyake designed for employees of Sony's factories. At Jobs's request, Miyake designed similar vests for Apple employees, but Jobs encountered strong opposition to the idea of a uniform.
Nonetheless, Miyake went on to produce the black turtlenecks which would become a part of Jobs' signature attire. Jobs said, "So I asked Issey to make me some of his black turtlenecks that I liked, and he made me like a hundred of them."

A screenshot of the Wikipedia entry page for Trump v. United States, saying:

Oral arguments were held on April 25, 2024.

Trump's attorney D. John Sauer argued that the President has absolute immunity from
prosecution for all official acts unless successfully impeached and convicted by Congress before prosecution. Michael Dreeben, representing the special counsel, argued that there are appropriate safeguards to assure that a president could not be prosecuted for most acts done while in their official capacity.

One notable controversy which occurred during oral arguments was a response Trump attorney John Sauer made to Sonia Sotomayor which argued Presidents can, among other things, kill political rivals with immunity.

Of all the words to do this with. It’s dumb either way but… “submit”? “Submit” is the word he’s going with? “Submit” is the word he’s going to say has no Arabic translation? I keep getting angrier every time I think about it.
A screenshot of Wikipedia. The text says:

Etymology

See also: Muslims § Etymology

In Arabic, Islam (Arabic: lit. 'submission [to God]') is the verbal noun of Form IV originating from the verb salama, from the triliteral root (S-L-M), which forms a large class of words mostly relating to concepts of submission, safeness, and peace.

The love for Nickel Creek in these comments makes me happy. Their latest, “Celebrants” was on repeat in my car for like a month, and I’m still on a Chris Thile kick because of it. Right now my favorite might be “Hell on Church Street”
The cover art for the Punch Brothers album “Hell on Church Street,” with the name of the band and album across the top of the image.

The art is a painting of a bird yellow bird carrying a twig. The bird has orange tinting on its head and black tinting on its wings. One end of the twig is cracked and flaming, the other is broken from a small tree on which the bird is perched. The tree is also covered in orange cracks, the uppermost branches aflame.

The tree in which the bird sits is itself in a blue nook, the majority of the frame is the wall around the nook, painted to look like a cloudy daytime sky. Above and in front of the nook, detailed paper cutouts of the moon and stars are falling. The cutouts are also on fire.
