Every player sees the entire galaxy from the moment they spawn. Every empire, every border. What you can't see is what anyone actually has behind those borders. Fleet sizes and buildings stay hidden until you fly some probes into their territory. #gamedev

The NPC empires are built to never outrun you. Each one watches the strongest human nearby and paces itself to stay within about 10% of their score, then goes idle once it catches up. No human around, no activity at all. #gamedesign

There is no game loop. The server never ticks. When you open your empire, it calculates what your extracted since the last time anyone looked and settles the difference. A thousand players idling costs the server basically nothing. #programming
