The bat houses at the University of Florida - it started as a passion project of a few and has grown into a campus, cultural event 🦇 It was so cool waiting for sunset and watching these little Mexican free tailed bats emerge from the houses in the thousands!

Heatwaves, droughts, and heavy rainfall - the negative effects of climate change are already impacting our ecosystems. But do we understand by how much?
Black text against a red solid background reads, "Climate change is changing our ecosystems. But do we know by how much?"

Chris Ruggia kicked us off as our first presenter at our Visual SciComm Conference. It was great to hear about his path in scientific illustration and how he works with many different scientific partners! #SciArt

Snippets of #artwork I’ve been working on in the in-between hours - such as in-between a work call, making dinner or in-between periods of existential dread 🌳

Spent the last 4 days in the Variety Woods logging concession in #Guyana, setting #cameratraps and cracking my neck looking for monkeys I was painfully reminded that mammal fieldwork requires atleast 10km of walking 😭 …my poor feet.

Roadside vegetation is so interesting to observe…full of thorns and prickly bits. There’s a plant here in Guyana, locally called “hold me back” and it literally snags your clothes lol…who are these plants angry at? #casualBotany (Also, can you spot the doves in the third picture?)

New Year New Toad! Our new friend Adhaerobufo wokomungensis was first described as a new species two months ago and is named after the location where they were found on Mount Wokomung in Guyana! (photo by D.B. Means)
A brown toad covered in lots of tiny bumps! Some of the bumps form a thin, orange colored line down their side, and some of the nearby bumps on their back are also this orange color! The bumps on their legs are very spiky looking!
