I’m not trying to center myself in this — my feelings in pale in comparison to the loss and trauma that happened on that day and afterwards. But I also wanted to send love to folks who, like me, see this day as an acutely traumatic event and are trying to hold space for all these feelings.

So much was unclear on that day, but the terror and fear I felt then is so visceral I can still feel it on days like today. I also remember the dread I felt knowing that whatever was going to happen next in Gaza was going to be unimaginably bad. Today is/was really hard.

I took a train to Manchester and I vividly remember refreshing news feeds and seeing reports of violence creeping closer to my parents. So much was unclear, but I remember feeling like every stop closer to Manchester was also closer to my parents death.

3 years ago today I switched on my phone after landing in London from a redeye to a NYT alert about attacks on the Gaza border and sirens across the country. My parents were back in Israel visiting family and staying in a building without a bomb shelter.
