Can we please stop pretending AI can replace peer review? If I wanted my paper reviewed by a model, I could have done it already. I want my community to read it and provide feedback. That's the whole point of peer review. Science depends on expert scrutiny and accountability—not automated judgment.

Our new paper, with my amazing PhD student, Aliah Zewail, is published in the European Review of Social Psychology. We review (and encourage) historical and geographical research on morality from a pluralistic perspective. Link: doi.org/10.1080/1046...

Honest question: how do people in NLP deal with the enormous stream of papers 📄 coming in on a daily basis? I would need three times the hours ⏳ to finish my reading list before new papers come in again 📚

A lot of non-academics don't understand the time scale of scholarly work. It takes at least months, often years, to complete an article or book. And a scholar's body of work often builds on itself over a decade or more. Being told to stop work mid-project can be catastrophic to a career.

Can we detect #hatespeech at scale on social media? To answer this, we introduce 🤬HateDay🗓️, a global hate speech dataset representative of a day on Twitter. The answer: not really! Detection perf is low and overestimated by traditional eval methods arxiv.org/abs/2411.15462 🧵
