Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 13/10/2026If I thought it was likely someone would ever actually see 20^2 worth of bricks I'd be pickier about the noise blend but it's genuinely not likely. 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Needed to replace a brick texture in my project and decided to do it correctly--took this original single texture with no variance and made it infinitely repeatable without a perceivable pattern using UV coordinates and a couple noise tricks. Can repeat up to 400 times without being noticeable. 100 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Woke up and realized I left a setting on in my config that baked two textures instead of one for a large 1200+ object texture bake. Hoped I was wrong but no. Object 868/1282 and 45,591s, meaning over 20k seconds left, or 6 hours of an unusable computer lol 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Each heirloom stack glitch took me like an hour of tries and means I finally got to listen to the full Living Failures track and it's an underrated banger. One of Bloodborne's best tracks, which intentionally references Holst. youtu.be/dJ4Ni-kFIZc?...youtu.beLiving FailuresYouTube video by SIE Sound Team - Topic 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Took three heir stack glitches but I finally got a max level character in Bloodborne hahaha 040 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I link to my bluesky on my portfolio page so I guess future employers will know what they're in for. 050 0

Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 07/10/202620 luck, 10 charisma, 10 intelligence. The rest is negotiable I think. 130 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Before-and-after procedural painterly texture baking and shaders I did for a project. The actual effect does NOT run in real time, but it bakes pretty fast and can let you process hundreds of textures in just hours. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I blundered mate in 1 in games I was winning twice today, but at least I won this endgame that had six pawns vs my four without any passed pawns all because of the endgame pawn theory I've been studying. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026This was their only real mistake. I didn't do the most-optimal path apparently but the most optimal trade removes one more piece from the board (not winning the piece, just one more trade) and I think that bakes in your advantage a bit more, but I was happy with how it went. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026My opponent has been rated as highly as 1000 recently so I think they've just had some really bad losing streaks, so they're a genuinely strong player, they just miscalculated ONE move in the mid game and I was able to take advantage of it. 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I actually made the pawn endgame harder on myself, if I'd gone for the a-pawns I could've really made it a lot easier on myself but that's just how it goes sometimes. 100 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I actually think I would've lost this game if I had not started watching Daniel Naroditsky's videos on endgames, it was a HUGE game changer for me and really gave me a good framework for how to manage these positions. 100 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I try to play 3 games a day so I get a good volume of practice but sometimes you play a game so good against a strong opponent that you just close the book. Genuinely my opponent only really made one true error and otherwise played a very challenging game, so I felt very proud of this chess game. 100 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I'm working through Danya's endgame videos right now and it's a life saver. His framework for identifying which pawns to push was a godsend that I needed. 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 21/09/2026POV: you didn't mentally resign despite blundering a whole piece and applied endgame pawn theory that you literally just learned and end up with two queens and a victory. 130 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Otb is like -30% elo haha. I have to play on my desktop or laptop so I can draw lines otherwise I suck. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I still fail to see pins constantly unless I very intentionally set them up. Also I have a ton of trouble visualizing pawns in calculations haha. They're just kinda immobile to me. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026No you didn't, I was just checking the analysis lol. It actually was really bad for them if you took too because of how it weakened their entire side of the board and attacked a piece. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy that it was probably the best move there. 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Tunnel vision in its various forms is literally my biggest weakness, probably worse than tactics. I was losing a game today but not lost-lost but couldn't figure out how to excavate my queen and just neglected a square entirely because I spent 8 minutes calculating exchanges. 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I feel so validated LOL. But honestly reviewing or watching someone else's game is kinda like watching Chopped. Like yeah you can see stuff but can you play it when you're the one doing it. 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Lol oh yeah I winced at the queen pawn take, tbh I think stockfish is a scumbag sometimes lol. It sees infinite possibilities 210 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Was surprised you didn't do Nxd4 here with the pin 210 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Ooo triangle defense nice. I've been trying out 1...nf3, 2...d5, 3...c5 for queen's pawn lately, but still getting used to it. 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Sometimes we stumble into similar lines but these people actually plan them ahead of time. 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I watched some of the Olympiad today and they are playing a different game I swear lmao 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I finally got to do the "check the king, queen blocks, check other side with a rook so the king has to take it and win the queen" tactic and I drooled lol 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I was 400 when I started so I'm calling it progress haha 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Yeah I need to practice and study more to break through to 1000 I think. I might be close, but it takes time. 220 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Yeah I mean I gained like 150+ points in a short period so it fluctuating for a bit makes sense 111 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 18/09/2026The reaper came a callin' for me after my winning streak haha 130 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Imagine if I just never lost a chess game again lmao. 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026My streak is over, I lost my next two games LOL. I straight blundered my queen in one and just played poorly in the next one. I'm honestly relieved, the streak was stressing me out 120 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026The daily chesscom puzzle today actually utilizes a similar idea in it, as well as a couple others if you don't wanna give it a shot yourself. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026This is a somewhat-classic chess puzzle solution, and I did set up conditions here so they'd be favorable to me, but they weren't forced to fall for it. It looks like a queen trade, but you can do a check with your rook that the king MUST take, which attracts them away from guarding the queen. 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I blundered at the end that created conditions that might lead to a draw, but my opponent had like 8 seconds left on their clock so they couldn't find it in time. I have to be careful! But being able to FINALLY do the rook attraction sac felt amazing. 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026This was one of the best games I'd played when it came to just really strong back and forth, it was an incredibly even game for most of it. A couple of blunders back and forth that kept us more or less even. I finally got to use a genuine puzzle tactic in it however to win a queen! 110 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I deadass had to stop the Vienna because I kept getting myself killed this way lmao 050 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Clearly they were mistaken on which color they were playing, had the board flipped, and was trying to play the Sicilian (this is my headcanon). 120 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Most likely explanation is foolishness then, probably. I mean I gave away a free knight like 9 games ago for no real reason other than my brain momentarily shortcircuited LOL. 010 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026A lot of people will push a flank pawn a pre-emptive prophylactic against bishop pins and to restrict knight movements, but part of me wonders if this person is sandbagging, depending on what the rating is. 140 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026LMAO. I always say the f pawn works for the enemy. 160 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I probably should have slowed down though. I had 13 minutes on the clock and let a forced mate against them slip through my fingers. I should've spent time thinking about my next moves, but I honestly overestimated their threat here 000 0
Hourigan @arhourigan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026In the 800s and 900s I think a lot of folk reallllllly need to start learning some openings, not just because they're "solved" chess in a lot of ways, but because there's actually a lot of tactics in openings you can take elsewhere. 100 0
