My guess would be when they were young, strong, and healthy with all the best things still ahead in their lives. I’ve noticed older people want to start talking about “the end times”. I suspect that down deep they can’t picture the world without themselves. I don’t know what young peoples excuse is.

I, too,am allergic to wool! If you’re going to knit, you learn to work around it. Those fancy pants hand dyed skeins are soo pretty, though. Every once in awhile I’ll see one I can’t resist and buy it, try to use it, have regrets, and then pass it in to a friend. 😂

Given my genetics, I also knew there was a good chance my son would be a big guy. He turned out to be 6’2. I taught him to be gentle with others from a young age and that girls are people too. My point is, these conversations need to be early and often with good examples set for them.

The teaching of boundaries starts young. My husband and I were always on the same page. Son knew he couldn’t go get a different answer from the other parent. No meant no. Over the years other adults ( certain family members) would sometimes try to get around that and every time we’d shut it down.

Another angle on this “ thinking 10 times” thing is the guys who are thinking about you way too hard. You may not have noticed them at all or just thought they were friendly. They can get very nasty very quick when you turn them down. They don’t seem to realize they’re virtually strangers to you.

There was a steel mill in my hometown, Kokomo, Indiana when I was very little. After it closed, it sat empty for years. Finally, it sold for like $2. It was so, SO polluted! Months of people in full hazmat gear for the next year cleaning and demolishing . So, yeah, lucky, lucky Iowa.
