André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 14/06/2025Software is always just a means to an end. Software isn't worth anything if it doesn't solve an actual problem. Know your users. Know your product. And then build something that really matters. 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 08/06/2025The Dune: Awakening launch sure is a wild ride but it's all worth it 💛 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 06/06/2025I wouldn't ever dream of tempting anybody. I'm just stating facts here. For example: DevCom has become a lot better in the new venue and there are still tickets available. Just facts. 010

Dynasty Warriors x DMC, with some EDF thrown in for spice. Not announced yet, but if you wanna hear first: glassbottommeg.myflodesk.com 33510
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 06/06/2025If you outsource the core of your business you become an investor. Do you wanna be an investor? Do you have the means to? 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 03/06/2025Having witnessed network outages because of vendor-confirmed firmware bugs that had no fix available I appreciate every simple, little device that has a functioning MAC table and nothing else. 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 03/06/2025Lots of universal truth in here: - The simplest tool that can do the job is the best tool for the job - Bad craftsmen blame their tools 110
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 02/06/2025I've been working on this on the Nitrado side. Fun times! 010
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 01/06/2025Working on SSH host certificates via Hashicorp Vault, authenticated through SPIRE/SPIFFE workload attestation. This is definitely the large scale automation setup I need for my [checks notes] three Raspberry Pis. 020
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 01/06/2025If you're being considered a "10x engineer" that simply means you've failed at elevating your peers above even 10% of your own efficiency. You might think of yourself as a "rock star" or whatever but you sure as hell aren't a senior engineer. 010
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 31/05/2025Removed the old chimney from my kitchen this weekend and the house didn't collapse. I'm a software architect. Never thought I'd do (and enjoy!) shit like this. bsky.app/profile/ares... 040
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025I knew the state of console game dev was bad with all its secrecy and closed SDKs but EVEN YOU not knowing if YOUR OWN GAME will run on a console releasing in a few days puts a cherry on top. 120
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Also brought to you by typing "ls -lisah" all the time and only *really* being sure about the -h. 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025guy operating lifeboat on the titanic: this is actually only meant for people who know what all the flags in the Linux command "netstat -tulpen" do me, climbing out of the lifeboat and back onto the deck: okay guy, lowering the lifeboat: aren't you using that several times a day? me: look buddy, 100
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Here's a fun observation: The actual challenge in writing is similar to software development. It's about developing a mental model, an *intent*, and that often has to simmer for a bit. Jotting down the words, or the code, is trivial in comparison. An AI can't develop your mental model for you. 010
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025My credo when mentoring engineers is "good software is the software that fulfills the requirements" and it takes most software engineers *years* to truly embrace what that means. 0389
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Your project, your rules. And if it's just internal stuff there's nothing wrong with something like that. I've had to deal with (parsing, generating) countless non-standard game config formats so... I have my scars. 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 30/05/2025I feel like I'm running into a trap but are you sure you don't want to use a YAML parser instead? YAML is a superset of JSON and if your goal is to write "JSON but with less strict syntax" you probably end up with valid YAML 200

André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 29/05/2025I think I'm gonna rewatch the last episode of Andor S2 today and then Rogue One. And then Episode IV. 051
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 29/05/2025I thoroughly love the costume design in Andor. They highlight that fashion is a result of societal and cultural norms and, objectively, does not make sense. This here is as nonsensical as any real world tie. 020
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 29/05/2025My house plants inspire me. If they can persevere under the most dire of circumstances, so can I. 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 29/05/2025In coding news, I've been using IntelliJ's "Full line code completion" plug-in for some prototypes and HOLY FUCK does it make me fast. I am extremely skeptical of AI code assistance but this actually works for me - and it runs on the local machine. www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/fu...jetbrains.comFull Line code completion | IntelliJ IDEA 000

André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 22/05/2025Let me put it this way: If I'd find a new clue, I'd know what to do! 110
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 20/05/2025A while ago I tried to articulate it like this. I don't have the vocabulary to accurately describe it, but AI writing is simply "off" in a very specific way. bsky.app/profile/ares... 000

André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 16/05/2025Yeah, I guess what I'm wondering about is the existence of a constructive proof of that property (might be the wrong lingo, my English math vocab is limited), i.e. one that works without using contradiction. 000
André Becker @arestless.bsky.social · 16/05/2025Yeah, I get that. You just got my mind rolling on the counter proof, i.e. what the proof is for "there are real numbers that can't be described". Let's see if I can sleep tonight x) 100
