Using a VCR to create VHS video filtering is easy, but the audio is hard to replicate without withering your tapes on purpose. To simulate VHS audio distortion, apply a vibrato effect with similar settings to the image below. MVibrato from MeldaProduction is a free plugin that you can do this with.

The MeldaProduction MVibrato plugin control panel, using a depth of 40%, a rate of 1.955 Hz, 0 degree width, 0 degree tremolo phase, and 0% tremolo. A graph of the vibrato pattern is pictured on the lower half, with a generally disrupted up-down curved motion.

A genuinely horrifying photo of Lightning McQueen from Disney's "Cars" as a radio + CD player combo unit. Lightning McQueen only has one set of wheels, and the middle part of the race car vehicle is non-existant. The rear and front of the race car make up the body. Lightning McQueen's windshield eyes are wide open, the pupils relatively small given the size. The front of the care has a wide, white-teethed smile, which looks really creepy and menacing.
