this is how much of North America is currently on fire... looks like the smoke i'm breathing in the Hudson Valley is from fires in northwestern Canada
Screenshot from NOAA HRR-Smoke map displaying fire detections as red points on a base map of continental North America. Clusters of red points appear in northern British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Clusters in the south line the Gulf of Mexico as well as the western coast of Mexico. Hudson River ice report: ice slabs continue to build up, to be smashed by the tide as it retreats. Few clear spots left after the temp plummeted yesterday. The shards make a great crunching sound as the wind and tide pile them up along the bank. Few birds out, saw a pair of hawks briefly.
