What we got wrong building Ardor: Technology isn't the bottleneck — information is. Operators do care. Regulation builds the dataset. These lessons shaped everything. ardor.institute

EU data centres by 2030: 150-200 TWh of waste heat per year. Germany's entire DH: ~130 TWh/yr. Even at 10% recovery: 15-20 TWh. Ardor is building the information layer. ardor.institute

10 MW facility × 80% load × €10-30/MWh = €500K-1.5M/yr in heat sales. Plus municipal goodwill. Ardor connects operators to buyers. ardor.institute

Germany has Fernwärme: DH serving 14% of households. EnEfG creates supply data. Fernwärme provides demand infrastructure. Ardor connects them. ardor.institute

AI training clusters: 50-100 MW each, 24/7. Liquid cooling captures heat at 45-65°C — directly usable for DH. Ardor maps them all. ardor.institute

Renewable energy has Guarantees of Origin. Carbon has credits. Waste heat has nothing. Ardor is building the verification layer that makes WHCs possible. ardor.institute

Amsterdam: dense DC cluster, limited DH infrastructure. All the ingredients exist. Missing: a matching layer. That's what Ardor builds. ardor.institute

AI is forcing liquid cooling adoption. Side effect: waste heat exits at higher, more usable temperatures. Ardor tracks cooling type for every facility. ardor.institute

A compliance filing contains exactly what a buyer needs. At Ardor, every compliance report becomes a searchable listing automatically. ardor.institute

By March 2027, every DC above 1 MW must file waste heat data with BAFA. That's the supply-side dataset Stadtwerke have been building by hand. Ardor makes it searchable. ardor.institute

Heat pumps bridge the temperature gap. COP 3-5. Deployed in Stockholm and Helsinki. Ardor includes temperature data in every profile. ardor.institute

Free cooling = low PUE = waste heat at 25-30°C. Needs heat pump. Mechanical cooling = higher PUE = 40-60°C. Directly usable. Ardor matches by temperature grade. ardor.institute

PUE measures efficiency inside the building. ERF measures what happens to the energy after. Germany's EnEfG tracks both. So does Ardor. ardor.institute

Each EU country is independently creating DC waste heat reporting. None coordinating. Ardor aggregates all of them into one searchable marketplace. ardor.institute

Verified data makes markets possible. Every EnEfG filing creates a verified data point. Ardor makes them searchable. ardor.institute

"We know where our demand is. We've mapped every building. What we can't find is supply." — A district heating planner Demand side: well-modeled. Supply side: scattered across internal energy audits. Ardor bridges the gap. ardor.institute

111 data centres mapped across 10 EU countries. The geography tells an interesting story. Frankfurt has enough clustered capacity for district heating. Nordic facilities sit near DH infrastructure but connection rates are low. Ardor adds verified thermal profiles. ardor.institute

Real estate has the MLS — every property searchable, comparable, verifiable. European waste heat is pre-MLS. Nobody has aggregated the data. Ardor is building the MLS for waste heat. 111 facilities across 10 countries. ardor.institute

Germany's EnEfG requires every data centre above 1 MW to file a waste heat report with BAFA by March 2027. This creates the first structured dataset of thermal energy supply across German DCs. Ardor aggregates it into one searchable marketplace. ardor.institute

European data centres produce over 200 TWh of waste heat annually. Most of it is vented into the atmosphere while nearby buildings burn natural gas. We built Ardor to fix that. 111 data centres mapped across 10 countries. ardor.institute

Real estate has the MLS. Energy has wholesale markets. Waste heat has nothing. No listings. No price discovery. No way for a heating operator to find a nearby data centre with recoverable heat. Ardor is building that marketplace.

Germany's EnEfG requires every data centre above 300kW to report waste heat by 2027. Most operators don't have the tools to comply. Ardor is building the compliance layer. Automated reporting. Verified methodology. The deadline is coming.

Every data centre produces heat. Most of it goes to waste. In Germany, DCs consume 18+ TWh/year. The waste heat could warm thousands of homes. But there's no standardised way to measure, report, or connect suppliers with buyers. That's what we're building at Ardor.

Every data centre in Europe is accidentally a heat plant. ~200 TWh/yr of waste heat, mostly vented into the atmosphere. The problem is that nobody has mapped where the heat is, what temperature, what volume. The data is fragmented across regulatory filings, energy audits, and municipal archives.
