She was Hayao Miyazaki's "right-hand" collaborator from the '70s onward. Her name was Michiyo Yasuda -- the best color designer in animation. Yasuda's eye for color gave Ghibli's work a totally different look. We explore her methods: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-artist...

To all the artist out there, I really hope everyone just keep creating 🥺 It really isn't about good art all the time, and know that being good isn't everything in creating art.

I catch social media people a lot of flack for this, so for the record: Giving up is the worst possible action you can take right now, still pursue your degree, pursue your project, because it will get better. Please, don't give up. That is precisely what the people in power want you to do!!!

I think the best detection method is to tell the artist "I love this! How did you do THAT part?" because a real artist will collapse into a puddle and start gushing about whatever it is, but someone using the garbage-farting computer machine will get evasive and vague

How to pointy: Trying to make a pointy bit on the line art removes volume and makes things flat. Make pointy more round.

Two paintings of a pointy something (maybe a tusk?). One has the line drawing end in a sharp tip, but it feels too flat. The other has it curving around a sharp bend, and it feels more volumetric and awesome.

Art tip: don't share everything you draw. Draw things you never intend to show anyone. Your brain needs time to just exist in a state that's not about performing for strangers. This used to be the normal way to exist before social media poisoned us.
