We don't need AI when someone as untallented as me can whip up a sketch like this in a few minutes. If I drew more I'd be better, but I don't often draw. Anyway, Nightstorm the stoat and Blackear the rat arrive at Arco's quarry. Blackear waving a greeting before they join the fox in the office.
A crude sketch of Nightstorm the stoat and Blackear the rat arriving at a quarry. The overseer Arco the fox (me) is observing their arrival from a balcony at the top of the stairs leading to his office.

I was trying to explain what ChatGPT is to my mom (she thought it was a messaging app) and after my explanation and some thought, she volunteered, “Oh, so it’s the magic mirror in the beginning of Snow White when it only tells the queen what she wants to hear.” Perfect analogy.

In my setting humans are unique in not being there. One of the primary plot points is finding out where they went/what happened, how did they vanish so quickly that all that is left is ruins and tales?

The ARF society bases their architecture on the old ruins of mankind, though instead of building everything close together, they build far apart and utilise various levels of tech to travel between sites to make it seem their society is smaller. This is in addition to their great underground city.

Something in Australia. Bearing in mind that the event that caused the awakening killed the majority of hooved creatures, and didn't affect lizards, amphibians, insects and fish. So going by gestation cycles, it would most likely have been Kangaroos that "woke up" last.

This one brings us back to the Avians. Very much still birds, but 2 to 3 times the size that we would recognise for their species. Golden Eagles standing 5 foot tall. Falcons around 3 foot, most song birds between 1.5 and 2 foot tall.

This one is interesting. Due to what caused the "uplifting" of the species, they have become semi-compatible. They can inter-breed and have young, but those young are sterile. Because of this, the act of inter-species mating is considered taboo and heavily discouraged.

There is no magic in my setting. Though the disparity between technologies of clans can be misconstrued as magic by the less advanced. Some species have natural defences, Claws, wings, quills, stink, as they are all "uplifted" animals of the real world.

Arco Fox @arcofox.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
There are avian species. They are, by lack of thumb, unable to produce the same things that the mammalian species can. But they bring differences of thought and ability to situations. Most have formed connections with mammal tribes, being an air force kitted out with things designed for them to use.

With the cultures only being 500 years old and having been focussed on surviving in a collapsing world, they have not had much time to develop recreational substances. Such things may be developed in their future, when things have calmed down.

Arco Fox @arcofox.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
With my world made up of anthropomorphic species of animals that exist, they also follow the diets of those species. There is a good mix of Herbivores, Omnivores, and Carnivores. Insectivores are harder to come by as very few survived before they figured out how to farm enough of their food.

Consuming the dead is a common one. Though not often done by those close to them, but organised and delivered to, or visited by, skavenger species. In the past, it was just how the world worked, but as the cultures developed, it has taken on a ritualistic nature.

A question to be thought about. Currently these issues are just considered part of life. No special significance is given to such things.
010
Arco Fox @arcofox.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
Very much yes. This is one of the prime driving points of the story, so can't really talk much about it without spoilers.

Arco Fox @arcofox.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Most groups outside of the aformentioned ARF are mono-species (not breed) and exclusionary. ARF is the largest known mixed group. Due to the often exclusionary nature of others, it is rare for an alliance or absorbtion into the community to occur.

Having only existed in their current states for around 500 years, the amlnthropomorphic creatures have not had much time to develop familial forms outside of what they had before the change.

Usually I only show finished works, but these dragon (dino) riders are coming along nicely. I am liking the green scales and cream flesh colour scheme.

Most cultures are very young. Most deify the Ancients, as they walk among their ruins. Some have built their Ancient mythology as visitors from the stars. There have been attempts to deify the sun and moon, but all failed, as the Ancients could shape the world. Only The Ten are worshipped otherwise.

While most are happy to live in the relics of man. Those at ARF, have spent their time building an underground city. At the time the story takes place, it had grown to a population of close to 10,000. That population made up of a mixture of over 50 anthropomorphic species.

We encounter the city cats at the start of the story. They live on the move thanks to life threatening dust storms. Mainly feeding on rodents and other wanderers, they dress in clothing forged from rags and decaying street signs. They take shelter in fortified structures to ride out the storms.

Many groups live in the expanding forests/woodland. Though some used to live in the trees, they have moved to the forest floors as they grew too large to remain treedwellers.

Quite a few. Most species that naturally live underground have simply enhanced how they live underground. Though the greatest community of subterrainian dwellers are those of ARF, occupying and having expanded an old underground military research facility.

Yes. The mammals and birds of Africa. I'm sure there are also ones in other hot places like Australia, but the story never goes there.

In a change from painting just models, I have also been painting terrain. A unit of 6 Iybraesil Windriders, painted so they can be split into 2 units of 3. And a pair of webway gates to go on the dense 2x4 inch terrain areas on the 11th edition maps. (Red vs Blue theme to keep appearing)

Was able to stargaze the other night. There was not a single point of time where I could not see multiple satellites crossing the sky. I'm not looking up to see satellites, I'm looking for the stars.
