RPG one-shot: you are the crew of the space corvette Nepenthes. in the grand tradition of military air crews, Nepenthes has been... decorated. the admiral will reach port for an inspection in 2 hours. do Not let him see the 25-meter anime girl you drew on the side of your ship with thermal tiles.
An anime face in ASCII.

#4: Coinflip panic I tend to run quick 1-3 session games of Mosh ("what adventure fell from my precariously-stacked tower this week" and not call for a lot of rolls, so the slow burn of Stress and Panic doesn't come up Instead, an immediate option - when you would panic, flip a coin and call it.
Teamsters flee. Discretion is the better part of valor.
Scientists freeze. You just need a second to think.
Marines fight. It always worked before.
Androids fantasize. This has never happened, so it must not be happening.

Started running my megastructure hexes - first turn of the game, a player sees this, goes "ah. the most obvious landmines I have ever laid eyes on", and then sprints directly at them. Gets blasted and then dragged out of the minefield by hirelings while screeching "lemme at em, it'll work" sure 🙂
001.002 - Ship-Eater Self-Defense System
A piece of the fabled Ship-Eater, a vast machine shattered by sept Viridescent's coilgun. Its anatomy is too damaged to make out - this mountain of steel could have been anything.
It is surrounded on all sides by twelve (always twelve) bobbing, floating landmines - when someone enters their 50' radius, or they are touched, they flash white before exploding into a fountain of molten steel (3d10, save for half).
A tight crawl through exposed electrical wiring (2d6 damage on contact) leads to the heart-magazine, where 63 more mines wait, inactive. If one of the twelve outside detonates, one of the 63 awakens and hovers out through the tunnel - if anyone is inside the magazine at this time, the awakened mine detonates, cooking off the rest. Death is certain.

A second region of the megastructure hexcrawl - the magnetic forest-catwalks of the Hanging Gardens, where metals are recycled and reprocessed before being dropped hundreds of miles to the Vault below.
002.003 - Host Symplectic
A clone-unit of Firstborn, grown in a machine like a great tree. 108 of them, on average. Parachutists in headsets, gas-masks, and cave-painted plastic lamellar (14 AC), with shaped-charge boarding spears (1d12 damage, destroys walls), long serrated knives (1d6), and banners that burn with lethal smoke (1d8).

Many of them live for only hours - climbing from their cradle, taking a weapon in hand, and stepping off the ledge to board Walker-Herd cities far below. The eldest are those who were spared the front and taught halting Navigational languages. They negotiate - trading crewmen (who, behind their masks, see glowing weather predictions) for sept-vessel components. They are building a warship, Shining Triangle Angles 50 50 80. When it is done they will not need you any more.
004.005 - Refinery
A solid stream of undifferentiated scrap, 500 meters wide, pours into the cavernous maw of the arc furnace to be melted down by skyscraper-sized graphite electrodes. The hex is filled with immense white-hot squares of all materials, levitated on magnetism as they wait to be sent to the Wire EDM for cutting.

If the Tokamak or refinery is destroyed, the work halts. The vast fields of burning metal cool, becoming salvageable.002.001 - Nanomachine Suspension Fluid
Four geodesic spheres, hanging in the air on struts. Each is filled with magnetic nanomachine suspension - dissolving, rebuilding, forming crawling melting shapes - to be sent to the caskets of the Vault Guardians.

Outside of its tank, nanomachine suspension twists into geometric shapes as it dissolves steel and other materials. The tanks are coated with Teflon, which the nanomachines have been taught to ignore.

003.000 - Laser Sinterer

Above the hex hangs a gantry, with one arm laying sheets of powdered aluminum and a second melting precise pieces together with a person-sized, 500 pound pulsed laser. This leaves columns, a dozen stories high, of loose aluminum powder filled with the sinterer's product - grey, skeletal androids (1 HD, 12 AC, 2 attacks with electric claws for +2 1d6, grapples if both hit).

There are 14 columns, each holding 4d20 androids, easily dislodged or awoken by climbing their resting places. The laser above could be used as a sept-vessel's engine (to heat a propellant).

17 androids already patrol the columns, humming with electricity.A ruined sept-vessel, cored out during its exile. Awnings and lengths of plastic patch its hull - atop it, constantly swaying, always-observant, an autonomous sandblaster turret waits to throw 2d6 damage jets of iron filings at the sept's foes.

Reifier's powerplant and life support remain functional - but its shrine sits, denigrated, in assembly-ship Cloudspinner. All 37 of its surviving members (19 combatants + 3 ulfheðnar) are animated by revenge, heading into the sky on a trio of ultralights to raid their former brethren.

The sept is led by Selectman Guiot Katell, who would like all of this to just blow over - but is carried along by the grief of his sept. 003.001 - Ship-Eater Antenna Complex

A pillar of antennae, rising up from the hydrogen lake with bismuth ziggurat-spatters clinging to its sides. You can't hear it scream - but you can feel its magnetic field. Within the entire hex, humans experience flashing lights in their eyes, nausea, vertigo, and the taste of blood. As you approach the antennae, save vs seizure - when you reach it, the field is strong enough to lift you into the air.

I can't put them on my blog, but my players don't read Bluesky - so, a couple contextless hexes and encounters from one region of my megastructure hexcrawl - the cylindrical Volume, home of Navigator nomad-ships.
006.000 - Curie Point Radiator

A 300-meter-wide hollow dome of molten cobalt, sprayed into the air and recollected via electromagnet. Under the dome, if you could reach it, is a 200' drop down into a claustrophobic room of blinking status lights. On each of the 8 corners of the room is a twitching projector - where their lights meet they form a human figure of deep red light and fatal heat (+3 to-hit, dealing 3d6 damage with a touch).

The figure is incorporeal and immune to damage - the projectors are not. If they are removed intact, they can be reused (as Ghost Projector). Knotted galls of platinum and fiber-optics are strung across the walls.

The radiator would make a glorious addition to an assembly-ship - but if it is removed or broken, the hydrogen sea begins to boil away. It will never return.2. Segolaine Split-Tongue (3 HD, 14 AC), a Navigator exile and gatherer of strange secrets. Her right arm is made of aluminum bronze (1d8), and her right shoulder of insulating graphite. She knows the unnatural, clipped notes of Acledulf’s Song - which, at its deafening crescendo, strikes both her and a target with a 3d6 damage bolt of lightning. When she calls the bolt, it seeks her prosthetic and leaves her unharmed. She hopes to return to her home sept, the Samara, robed in glory - no matter what she does, she will never think it enough. 000.004 - Heliport

The ground is covered in cesium razor wire - cold enough to remain solid in Volumetric air, but ready to melt and catch fire after cutting into skin and through protective suits. In the center, under concrete blast doors, are six autonomous rocket-on-rotor helicopters (8 HD, 18 AC, 2 attacks +4 30' radius 2d8 autocannon, 8 laser-guided missiles dealing 4d10 damage in a 120' radius, destroy sept-vessel rooms) set to protect the Weaver and harass sept-vessels.

Procrastinating from my "projects" with "deadlines" to fool around with hexmaps for my megastructure setting. Good ol' impossible liquid-hydrogen seas / atomized aluminum dunes / cold grassland (with chance of invisible firestorm) nightmare sphere...
a seven-hex-diameter hexcrawl map split between green grassland, white sand, and blue liquid hydrogen. Three hexes are marked with settlements, and the center hex with a black disc.

for a version i've thought about: - Its steering-drones, hovering on rotors & strings. - Action: sodium metal flechettes - 1d8 to two targets. - Its crushing feet. - Action: trampled - 1d12. Reactions - A minder's errant rotors - 1d6. - Sodium-splinter chaff - 1d4 and blinding within melee.

One day and half a dozen rooms into my triple-sized #zungeon - a good ol' evil wizard laboratory. Talking doors, wine made from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, and at least one huge golden statue that pries your limbs off, all keyed on a map I'll need to remake sooner or later.
An 18 room node map divided into three color-coded areas - death curse factory, wine room, and library.
