Notebook ring that's about the right size to replace the plastic ring on my sling that Serra the dog chewed. It is a smaller diameter ring, and it is metal rather than plastic.

Serra, a mostly black and white dog. Looks a little like a hound or a Great Dane arnd her head, with a white blaze down her nose, a white chest, white toes. Her ears are floppy. She’s a Good Girl.

This is a section of a large piece of Aida cross stitch cloth that I dyed with black tea earlier in the week. It is a very pale tan, with some mottled sections caused by scrunching up the cloth in the tea. The mottling is deliberate, because apparently folks like to use stuff like that these days.

Willow chose Bob when we went to adopt him. He was her best buddy all his life with us.

#CrossStitch A Glimpse of Aurora Borealis by QuaternionCreations on Etsy. Quick and fun to work! My first time using a metallic thread (in the aurora parts) held together with a variegated blue/green strand of floss. The fabric is hand dyed Aida from WitchesGardenCrafts on Etsy.

I've now successfully connected part of the border! I had to frog most of the bottom border (the squiggly bit) because I'd counted wrong on the LH side a bit above the corner. Only easy bits left - straight borders and little triangles. And a date in the corners #CrossStitch #ModernFolkEmbrodery

A cross stitched pattern of a stylized dragon. It has a long tail that flips back and forth over its back, so that the end of the tail is just behind the head. The pattern is stitched in a variegated shade of red/orange on cream-colored Aida cloth. Its front paws reach out, its jaws are open and its tongue lolls fiercely.

The socks: Super plain, garter st heel, knitting a little more firmly than usual, just to see if I could. Sock yarn over 62 sts, size 0 needles. Color here is a little more accurate, but still extra blue.

Hand knitted socks, yarn is a mix of blues and greens and teals and purples. Socks have a garter stitch heel, no pattern on the foot or leg, and a 1x1 rib at the top.

#QuickQuakerSAL #CrossStitch Just put in the last stitch, so not washed or ironed or anything! I'm surprisingly chuffed about finishing this. Pattern from Modern Folk Embroidery, SAL for April 2026. Thread is DMC 3808, cloth is Aida I found at the SEFAA second-hand shop.

A small sampler. Pattern: Quick Quaker Stitch-A-Long from Modern Folk Embroidery. The pattern consists of half medallions along the sides, in varying sizes; stars, a rose; a bird; some other random flowers. Toward the top left there is a box containing my initials (JLH) and the year (2026). The cloth is a pale soft sage green sort of color. The threads are a dark teal.

Complete cross stitch project! Brownish fiddler's cloth, 18 count (i think), reddish brown floss. There is a grumpy looking owl on a basic perch, surrounded by simple, stylized vines with leaves, with a small circular border.

I’ve closed the circle! Gonna get the stuff around the edges & do the owl last. This is a really fun piece to stitch. I’m stitching in hand, using the sewing method. This piece is easy and useful (and forgiving!) to learn how to do this. #CrossStitch #modernFolkEmbroidery

A bit of cross stitch. A circle encloses some simple stylized leafy branches with a straight line coming up st 6:00, and a horizontal line a bit up. This will be the perch for a grumpy looking stylized owl.

So while I was working through the first four books of War and Peace, I used the sock blank above to make some fun clown-barf socks! My basic pattern, this time knit top down, with 2x2 rib on leg, short row garter st heel, stockinette foot and wedge toe. They're a mess, but I'm happy with them!

A handknitted pair of socks made from the sock blank in the post that this is a reply to. Very plain sock pattern, 2x2 rib in the calf, short row garter stitch heel, and stockinette foot, over 64 sts. The colors of the sock blank pool and spiral up the foot. There are yellows, greens, pinks. whites, blacks, oranges, all in no real predictable order.

For the POIDH folks. In all it’s unblocked glory: Wisterious shawl by Nim Teasdsle. Yarn is Shibui Knits Lunar, color Ash.

A hand-knit shawl. It is off-white (very pale grey, but that doesn’t show well in this photo) and the shape is slightly more than a half circle. Seven points start radiating from the top center, expanding as the shawl gets larger toward the edge, with different lace patterns between the different rows of points.

Quick first look at Rainbow Shawl, not washed, not blocked, ends not sewn in yet. Handspun, chainplied to maintain color order, all gater stitch except for 1 st of sockinette as dividing ribs. It looks better than i thought it would. 😐

My bro took me out to lunch for my birthday today. We went to Ted's Montana Grill, and I got a free dessert!

Today in adventurous (for me) eating: cucumber-flavored potato and watermelon drink with “chewable aloe” bits. Chips were ok, a little sweet, but did kinda taste of cucumbers. The drink was VERY sweet, the”chewable aloe” was honestly too small to chew but not annoying.

Absolutely terrible photo of shawl, unblocked, ends NOT darned in, hanging on the fence, with #BobTheDog for scale. Bob hates having his picture taken. Pattern is Flower Pi Shawl with an 8 st razor shell edging, done in 8/2 cotton (i think) in variegated blues, browns, greens and whatever.

#TourDeFleece2025 My spinning activity today was using plying up that big plying ball I made yesterday. I couldn't quite get it all on one bobbin.

There are hooks on both arms of the flyer. The bobbin is brown. It is inside the arms of the flyer. The yarn is slightly variegated and silvery-grey.
