Recently discovered that an adorable bun named Delphine lives a couple blocks away and is often hanging out in the front yard asking for scritches. Happy to oblige 😊

I led a lettering workshop tonight and I’m just so impressed with these beautiful greeting cards everyone made with only a couple hours of practice! 🙌

Fridge is refusing to be cold (you had one job!) so now I get to pretend I’m camping inside my house. Fingers crossed that after defrosting the fridge for a day it will come back to life 👻🤞

New look! This name change is coinciding with the foundry’s 5th birthday and to celebrate, I thought I would confuse everyone about my identity (I joke, I joke). Moving forward, we will be called Arcane Type Foundry and we believe fonts are magic!

And for the A type folks, organized beads! 😬

Been making a lot of melty beads (or fuse beads, perler beads, Hama beads). I am getting better at ironing them evenly 😅

Sometimes you are just happily working on a typeface and it looks at you funny.

Two o characters in a handwritten style with an underscore between them so they look a bit like an unimpressed face.

Mother’s Day gift from my boys—time to be the big bad and slay all the adventurers in town!

A board game called super boss monster with awesome pixel artwork. In the game, you are the boss of a dungeon and you must build the dungeon rooms to attract and slay adventurers and be the best bad boss possible.

People really want to early vote in my neighborhood today 😅 I have waited for nearly 3 hours now 🫠 but now that I’ve invested so much time, I gotta see it through!

A very special font release! It's a handwriting font based on my Grandfather's writing from 1955, when he was writing love letters to my Nana. My grandfather recently turned 99, and I wanted to celebrate by making this font for him, but it's so pretty not to share, so it's available on my site now!

Recently got a Nikon Z50II after years without a camera (other than the one on my phone). My D80 broke about 5 years ago and I just kinda stopped taking photos, which was weird because I’ve been the one who takes photos since high school. Anyway, now I want to take photos every day, here’re a few.

Geometric dome made of glass in the background with some tropical-looking palm leaves off to the right side.

A large tropical bird with grey feathers and a red tail sits on a rectangle stick structure. He is surrounded by tropical foliage and a geometric dome in the background.

A cafe store front takes up the left half of the frame with the sidewalk continuing down the street to the right. The building is two story and the top half has red lettering that says liberty on a white background.

Tracing some handwriting. Now to add features like swashes and ligatures for slightly more variation.

Early Christmas present from my dad, he built a nice big bench for the dining area! I gave him a quick sketch and some dimensions and he made it a real thing. Plus extra storage in tiny apartment, yes please!!!

My kids need some extra help with writing so I made a club to make writing practice sound fun and cool. Here’s a little doodle of a logo to make it feel real.

Oh hai! For more context than my little bio, I'm an independent type designer running Alanna Munro Type Foundry. I'm on a mission to make everyone I meet into a Letter Nerd because I think letters are heckin' cool! For serious though, I teach typography because it's a really important part of design

A close up of a woman holding a white travel coffee mug. She is wearing a blue plaid shacket, has bright yellow nails that match the colour of a sticker on the mug in the shape of a multi-pointed star that reads "certified letter nerd."

A large high-contrast ampersand that takes up most of the bottom left of the image. The Ampersand is black on a light grey background. Text set around it reads: "Stornoway, 28 styles of sturdy elegance."

A large yellow 'a' that has the points and handles made visible. The word "custom" is laid out across the top in bold letterforms.

One sticker being held above a background of copies of the same sticker. The sticker is arch-shaped and holographic with black ink. There is an icon of a wizard holding a staff that is actually a pen tool and words arching around the icon in a pixel font that read, "pen tool wizard"

I've been searching for an alternative to Sticker Mule (you can look up the reasons why) but it has proved difficult to recreate the print quality and shape I want. Tried 3 other places so far and it looks like @jukeboxprint.bsky.social wins! The print quality is actually better than the mule place.

Four multi-point star-shaped stickers laid out in a square with the business name of who printed them written in pen underneath each sticker. The stickers are all the same, a bright yellow background with the words "certified letter nerd" on it.

Amberwood in use, spotted at the local kids bookshop! It’s a slightly modified version of Amberwood but I should probably add these not-so-tall styles at some point. More amberwood: alannamunro.com/fonts/amberwood

New Release: Stornoway! Aren't high-contrast sans serifs just the coolest? But they are not super great for text so I added a contrast axis to take that contrast down low (Stornoway Low) for use in text! Stornoway is a beautiful, functional little powerhouse ❤️

A large ampersand in the bottom left with a smaller "fresh font" sticker to the right of it. Across the top of the image it says "Stornoway" set in a high contrast sans serif font. Following that is smaller text that reads, "28 styles of sturdy elegance"

A collection of 'a's in an L shape with the boldest weights at the top and bottom right. There are two slider shapes on the inside of the L, the one going from top to bottom is labeled as weight and the one going along the bottom is labelled as contrast.

An example of the cover of an interior design magazine. There is a large image of a living room with a white couch in the bottom right and a desk built into the wall on the left. The colour tones are all very light but earthy and the decor is Scandinavian in style. The masthead reads "Open House Interior Design and Decor" set in Stornoway, a high contrast sans serif. There is a large outlined 72 over the image next to a small word that says issue.

I used to use the blue bird place to announce when I was doing some live type design. I’m throwing a little online party tonight to celebrate my new website, and new typeface. Bring some drinks and snacks, come in your PJs—it’ll be a fun, chill time. twitch.tv/alannamun

Website launch party, online on Twitch. Nov 22, 5-8pm PST.

Back in my interaction designer days, when we launched a new website for a client we had a tradition of all throwing on some cool shades and blasting “danger zone” through the whole studio. I like to keep this tradition alive so this is me this morning. Check out the new site! alannamunro.com
