This is three-- four days early but I wanted to do something for my fiance @asaltyrat.bsky.social for Mayternity -- haven't fully recovered from the spinal injury yet but I'm able to sit down and do some artwork again.

So, update, since I've been unable to use a computer up until now. As it turns out my first doctor was wrong. Not only did he tell me 'it wasn't my bones' but he judged this off of blurry x-rays which the public hospital rejected and they were redone, showing I had a spinal fracture.

I was discharged late afternoon with a script for stronger painkillers to be used when the pain is severe, and, lo and behold today I feel so much better without pain dominating my every thought. So here's this I hammered out in less than an hour.

Doing updates on how I do pricing based on recommendations by my partner. Alright, so. Baseline: $20 for a headshot $40 for a bust $60 for a fullbody Plus modifiers for complexity (colored lines, etc.) I'll take about ten-- twelve at the most but that's pushing it-- commission slots a month.

Sorry I haven't been doing artwork.

Both my father and my mother worked hard, believing that money was an acceptable replacement for love and attention, because they were practical minded people. And I was well aware of this, even as a kid.
I only saw any amount of love at quitting time, near about 8 PM, when either of them may arrive, and my mother would brush the side of my cheek, before destressing from work, and that would be my allotment of love. My father showed even less, but I sought out any amount of approval from him at all, to little avail. "Always do better."
I still loved them, I still cared for them, but I knew I was missing things in my life that other people might have had. I didn't have siblings growing up. My mother can only handle giving birth to me with a rheumatic heart, a second kid would be pushing it.
I have.. an accelerated heart rate as is. I'm not sure either of my parents were aware of how high my heartrate was at resting point. But this made me avoid physical pursuits. Anger was not a nice thing to have for me.
But my father saw that this arrangement of a working couple wasn't working and then started having an affair. Because he wasn't getting enough attention from my mother either and instead of sticking by with her, took with his lover and had a kid off wedlock while married to my mother
.. at the time I understood my father. It would have been lonely. I grew up being that, so I am fine living alone until people on the internet touched my heart and opened it up. I already made my decision on how I wanted to treat this early on, naively, because of my desire to avoid anger and confrontation. -- (truncated rant)

My time in that house was agony. I suffered abuse, verbal and physical from his 'lover', who did not understand that their way of raising a kid was not my mother's way of raising a kid, and it was causing me grief and pain which stretched on and on for days, and weeks and months.
My pleas to go back to the family home went unanswered by my father. I felt like that might as well have been consent.
I hardened my heart more. Spent what time I have online planning. Pouring my heart out on artwork to cover for the lack of love, this was the time I was taking 10-12 slots monthly in commission artwork. I was making money driven by grief and despair just so I can escape.
And I did, eventually, tired of just accepting it. And tired of just saying nothing, avoiding being angry and bottling up my emotions.
I was scarred by the experience. I gained depression. It was harder to do artwork because it was a reminder of the pain I went through. I stopped being punctual with artwork and stopped being able to regularly draw for Quil/etc. Because getting myself to draw was.. agony. I have to deal with the emotions tied with being driven to do it out of hurt.

To this day my father does not understand. So I write this account to hope he sees my point of view. Being there was the tipping point that ruined my life the most. I lost my drive. My will to live. My desire to draw. I started waking up, only to realize I do not have energy to live my life, and going back to sleep immediately. I cried into my pillows when I remember, only until my eyes were dry. Then went on periods of internalizing that pain and forgetting about it, only to renew a cycle whenever I am forced to remember.

I erased their address and phone numbers, hoping to forget more, and only remembered my father's old yahoo email account. -- (truncated rant)

"Why do you draw and play characters that fight?" I recognize I have issues with being vulnerable, weak and sick. Because I was in a hospital bed for more than a month wondering if I was dying of cancer. Amongst other reasons. And I reject wanting to show weakness ever again. Is that good? No.
