People who are abusive also don't like being called "abusive". It is our job to hold up a clear mirror when people try to deny who they really are and what they really value.

As an INFJ (very typical for a therapist), my respite spot was the Shire from Lord of the Rings. Seems about right. LOL

Withdrawal symptoms from psychotropic medication is a truly scary experience. Sometimes clients don't realize the dangers of discontinuing medication and sometimes disruption in insurance or financial cost caused them to discontinue. More often than not it leads to crisis intervention.

“Shouldn’t you be over it by now?” Trauma doesn’t follow a timeline. Time passing isn’t the same as healing. Safety, support, resources, and the opportunity to process what happened all matter. There is no universal deadline for healing. Worth a read. ❤️

“You’ve changed.” Many clients hear this from others after being in therapy. Sometimes becoming healthier means becoming unfamiliar to people who were comfortable with the old version of you. Sometimes your transformation makes others want to change too. 🦋

Therapist brain: Don’t say it. It’s such a cliché. Find another way to phrase it. Also therapist brain: But I actually need to know how that makes you feel. 🐸🤦‍♀️

We have a new baby at the stables! 🐴🥹 There is something wonderfully grounding about being around horses. Also something completely unproductive because I would now like to cancel all responsibilities and just hang with this little one all day long. ❤️

Interesting read on what may predict long-term relationship success: not chemistry, but temperance- the ability to pause between feeling an impulse and acting on it. Essentially: feel the reaction, but choose the response. Curious what others think about this.

Emotional regulation is generally categorized as a "soft skill," something nice to have alongside the "real work." But it is often the key difference between chaos, violence, and calamity, and thriving, health, and connection, writes @drjasonnlinder www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/mind...

Why Emotional Regulation Is Harm Prevention
We often treat emotional regulation as a soft skill. But what if learning to tolerate difficult feelings is the key to preventing aggression, addiction, suicide, and even violence?

Self-mastery doesn't mean controlling our emotions, eliminating vulnerability, or becoming perfect. Rather, it’s the ability to understand what is happening inside us and increasingly choose how we want to respond. And it starts here. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-...

After a few years taking lessons, I finally had my first fall from Ruckus, whose name tells you everything you need to know about him. 🐴 As both therapist and rider, I know confidence isn't built by avoiding falls, but by surviving them. Tend to the wounds and then get back up on that horse! 🤠
