Summary:

Most well-bred Halovians of the upper class had one of their own. Gopher Wood, in his advanced age, had kept many over his lifetime, selling them when age encroached upon the youthful beauty he had purchased them for.

Now his wards had reached the age when they would need companions of their own. In truth, Sunday was well past the age when it would have been prudent to acquire one, yet he had shown little interest in any fruit Gopher Wood could think to tempt him with.
