 ‘Writing Is Rediscovering the Tangible’
Born in the mid-1980s, Ahmed Alhokail is among the most distinctive Saudi writers of his generation. In this exchange, he talks about placing the ordinary at the center of the story, classical Arabic narratives as a living model, Najdi oral storytelling and the uncanny, and the “global reader.”

No, I'm wrong. Promoting Indra's book has everything to do with ArabLit's core mission, which includes creating networks of multi-directional support for writers outside the channels of big-business publishing, book fairs, platforms, etc., esp. if those writers show concrete support for Palestine.

This has nothing to do with ArabLit but 1) I personally love this novel, and 2) you can see Indra here every day supporting Palestinians in Gaza in concrete ways. Buy this book. (Or get it from the library, because you should read it in any event.)

‘Romeo and Juliet,’ by Fawwaz Haddad
At the recent Doha launch of ArabLit Quarterly's Spring 2026 The Fall of Eternity, co-editors Ghada Alatrash and Fadi Azzam spoke with Georgetown University-Qatar professor Youssef Haddad about literature, Syria, and the work of imagining a path forward. Today, we share a short fiction from the issue that attempts part of that re-imagination.

Book Review: Ansam Abu Sitta’s ‘Bench of the Reserves’ Reviewed by Nada Hodali Live in the present moment, do not miss out on what is happening there in front of you! Why are you always stuck in the past? Most of us have had this line thrown at us in different situations. In the case of being a Palestinian, however, being stuck either in the past or the future has become a survival mechanism for them.
