It's not idiotic. Many religions/cultures have classes and events outside of school -- such as Sunday school or Hebrew school. Nobody prevents that.

Pretty clear you just want to argue. I haven't called the fire dept in yrs but I am not seeking a rebate. Send your kids to public school if you can't afford both.

I had one kid who is graduated but I don't complain abt still paying. I want my docs, advisors,...and kid to know what they're doing when I need them.

You also might decide to drive your kids to school rather than taking a free school bus. You might prefer to play tennis at a club rather than at a public court. Pay for your choices.

Why do you pay taxes for many other things that you might never use? Because you belong to a community and that means keeping the entire group healthy.

I never saw the degree of bullying in public school that I saw in parochial schools where even the nuns/teachers beat kids who didn't conform and even suggested they be ostracized as punishment even as they offered no educational or emotional supports.

It's not standard practice. When I was in college docs would tell us to watch the bartender make the drink or get it in an unopened can/bottle. That was in the 80s, and sadly nothing has changed.
