Guess what! My most ambitious needle-related adventure yet! 📏 This isn’t really sewing — more embroidery and geometry — but apparently I love my brother or something, because I’ve decided I want to try to add a design to a shirt for him for his birthday 🪡 Mapping out/practicing the design on paper rn 👀

I just realized I didn’t update last week! We’ve done so many cool things between today’s class and the previous one, including this little book we made this afternoon with the Ethiopian bookbinding method 🥰 Next class is the last one and we’re making a box to store all our creations

A new sewing adventure 🪡 I had a short one-afternoon class that was an intro to sashiko needlework and I finally finished the front half of the project! 🩵🐰 The design came pre-printed on the fabric so no hand-stenciling was done, but it gave me a good idea of how to approach future projects 🥰

Val’s Bookbinding Adventures 📖 Had my first bookbinding class last night and it honestly reminded me a lot of being in elementary school. 🥰 We should all fold and tear and cut and glue paper a little more as adults ~ it’s so meditative! And it feels really doable so far, so I’m excited!

At this point, it’s time to harvest the right side. Though they may well grow some more, if you wait too long with microgreens, they start to taste very bitter which defeats the purpose. I’ll need to buy a ceramic knife though since metal ones make vegetables brown faster.

So, I’m going to check out alternatives and see how they compare. This was the first sample that arrived. Upon opening the bag, it was clear that this blend isn’t quite right. It’s very sweet (probably vanilla) and the taste is a bit too toasty. It’s delicious and nutty — but not the same.

Two Updates: Day 6 brought with it HELLA growth which is so exciting! But only for one side for some reason. 😢 My dad suggested I flip the tray 180° in case the water wasn’t distributing evenly — lo and behold, 30mins later, I come back and see the sleeping side is suddenly very, very wet.

Fucked around and ended up making an envelope. Before it was an envelope, it was perhaps the ugliest wannabe placemat. I tried attaching a snap closure, but the bottom was too thick so I may end up just attaching yet another button to make it functional Creation attempts lead to a lot of junk.

We’re making a zipper bag in my sewing class and I’ve redone the stitching four times on one side because I hate it, and I finally gave up and moved on to the other side — and the other side came out so good that now I feel like I have to redo the first side a fifth time so that they match 😭

Bought some fat quarters and decided to try to make myself a shitty little pouch 🥹 I got too lazy to measure anything and it’s all wonky and uneven, but this exists now and as shoddy as it is, it makes me feel so hopeful about what I might be able to make one day. 💪🏼
