How does chirality in small building blocks manifest in dense bulk flow? Li et al. show that strong chiral edge flows can occur even with weak individual chiral bias due to nematic alignment and hydrodynamic interactions. Read more here! journals.aps.org/prx/abstract...

When phase-separating proteins are membrane-bound and locally disturb it, the mechanical response of the membrane mediates interactions between these proteins, as shown by Winter et al. The video visualizes this evolving process as protein domains grow, merge, and reshape the membrane.

Bougouin et al. show that when a discontinuous shear-thickening suspension spreads after a dam-breaking event, it generates a vertical front moving at constant speed. This differs from Newtonian fluids which advance slower as they spread through the gravity-driven flow. Read doi.org/10.1103/w1zz...

Keep your friends close, and your enemies… Experiments by Yun-Xuan Zhang at NCU (Taiwan) show the behaviors of natural killer cells, part of the body's defense system. With cancer cells, killer cells attach and form a cancer cell-killing cluster, while they leave normal cells undisturbed.
