Met @midwesternscribbler Missouri poet laureate in line for coffee. Said when he was a high school librarian my books converted some reluctant readers!

The Trump administration has delayed a final decision on Endangered Species Act protections for monarch butterflies, with a new deadline of June 6, 2030. Monarchs remain without protections while the decision is pending. The agency could act sooner, but this agreement allows years more of waiting. 😔

And I'm worried about delays, too. Like if 17 are in the disagreements section, does that mean the payment won't happen by Nov 15 - which is when my property taxes are due?

Disappearing books? Maybe I should count mine up to make sure it's the right number.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with imprints. Like some of mine were published by Henry Holt, and I said they were the publisher, but Henry Holt is part of Macmillan. Anthropic person said if it said default, then all publishers will split and all authors will split.

April Henry @aprilhenry.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Every single one of mine that wasn't out of print got moved into disagreements, but I can't see anything I disagree with. It's so f'ing confusing.

My editor is definitely not a gusher (nor does she have particularly clear handwriting), but this "lovely!"(with an underline!) just made my week! You can decide for yourself a year from now when DIG ANOTHER GRAVE comes out.

I love revisions! Just got my editor's notes for DIG ANOTHER GRAVE (Sept 27) and working on them I literally lose track of time. With my editor as my guide, I can deeply focus on a few things.

During the pandemic I got to be friends with my mom's cousin. He's 93. His expertise in mathematics helped in everything from developing Tamoxifen to drilling ice cores in the 1980s in the Antarctic that showed global warming. In his mid 80s he still owned and rode horses.

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.
