I get irrationally upset when ppl refer to Orthodox ppl going to Mass. Especially in a novel or best selling book, do a bit of research.

My sister lives in Indonesia and I asked her to get me some Pokémon cards from there. She went down to their equivalent of Walmart & found boxes of the latest set. I’m paying between $10-$14 per pack these days, she’s paying $2 a pack.

This looks like Ross time traveled back to warn past Ross not to sleep with chunky Reese Witherspoon.

Rod Dreher thinks Bin Laden is gloating in hell. To me this is a sign of someone who does not take the concept of the afterlife seriously. As though in Heaven or hell we will care about our ideologies or culture war fight rather than confronting our own soul & the sufficiency or deficiency of it.

For my birthday a friend made me a painting of a graded Pokémon card. Pidgey is one of my favorites and I’m currently trying to collect a master set of all English language Pidgeys.

It’s been a bit but I’m onto the next one and I really like the format. It takes a single object, such as the muslin scarf Jane wore & explores how fashion & economics shaped Jane’s life. This is a refreshing change from the linear biographical format of the previous books.

This was my favorite book growing up, I was obsessed with Greek mythology. Probably why I enjoy running TTRPG games. I got this new addition at The Strand bookstore.

In the UN gift shop each country has a small shelf where they sell items that represent them as a country. Usually some bit of art or good they’re known for. Korea had some lovely ceramics, Ethiopia has some colorful woven baskets, Bulgaria has some carved wooden boxes. This is the American shelf.

Growing up one of my favorite books was From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. A book about a brother & sister who run away from home to go live in The Met in NYC. Today I went to the Met & found the bed they slept in while living in the Met.

I’m in the Alexander Hamilton Customs House in NYC. The rotunda features artwork of commerce and European explorers, including Columbus. The building currently serves as the NYC branch of the Smithsonian’s American Indian Museum.

I just got my new Daggerheart book, dice, and GM screen. I think Daggerheart has made a good attempt at replacing D&D and if ppl want a slightly crunchier system than PbtA I’d recommend this one. But they also just have gorgeous art & production values.

New Pokémon pickups. Team Rocket art is consistently my favorite. They seem to be willing to do unusual things or try new art. I also like the contrast of these cards. One sleeping peacefully in nature, the other passed out next to many bottles but still smiling.

You've been murdered. Who do you want on the case? Nero Wolfe & Archie Goodwin obviously. Any fictional detective is going to solve the case but few are going to do it with as much aplomb & style as these two.

One hundred & sixty years after the events in this painting neo-Confederates are in the White House. Notice the body language in this painting they chose, a meek slightly disheveled Grant seems to be asking a stout resplendent Lee for peace. Grant has no sword whereas Lee proudly holds his.

Update on my Pokémon journey. I went to another card convention, I only needed five cards to finish my Base Set. One of them was Charizard though, very pricey. But I found a German language Charizard for a fraction of the price!

There are two Venasaurs & another Blastoise I’ll be selling. There are a couple great hits, Ancient Mew is one of the highlights. But my heart nearly stops when I see a 1st Edition Lugia which can go for $1,600 to $2,000. But then I turn it over and see a name written on it.

I start sorting through and four hours later I’m finding incredible card after incredible card. I agree to sell the more expensive ones for some of the duplicates and all the bulk cards I want. So that’s how I got two of my chase cards, two of the big three. Blastoise & Venasaur.

Latest update on my Pokémon journey. Some friends from church told me a family member had given them Pokémon cards years ago and I was welcome to come over and look through them. I get there and there are probably a thousand cards.
