Race Recap: 5 Peaks Mount Seymour
To close out racing season, I had the choice of doing this 5 Peaks Race, or maybe another SwimRun at Lake Sassamat. The latter was tempting from a multisport adventure point of view, but we have a lot of loyalty and history with 5 Peaks as a family, so we opted for the former. I found they had added a hiker's division, which let's people enjoy the marked, marshalled course without regard to timing or competition.

I learned the Robertson screw is Canadian on a co-op work term in 1995. When I complained about not using the more familiar Phillips head, my supervisor (a Brit!) explained the Robertson is actually mechanically superior.

More Gravel Biking: Tour De Muskoka
One of my big motivators for buying a bike for the cottage was when I saw signs throughout Huntsville advertising a 'Tour De Muskoka' - this ended up being a fundraiser for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation. Rides of 93km, 54km and a gravel ride of 53km were offered, and I waffled between the latter 2 options. I'm far from an expert gravel rider, so maybe the road 54km would have been better - it also had slightly less hill climbing.

Hey #booksky, I'm hoping to track how much time I spend reading each day, but I generally forget to look at my watch or manually time it. I was hoping my eReader would provide some stats, but it doesn't have the right ones to say "you spent 13 minutes on this book today". Any tips on tracking ?

New Bike Adventure: Gravel Biking
In the past, I've struggled with Mountain Biking. Most trails I find are too challenging, to the point of being dangerous to me at the level of expertise I have (i.e. next to none). Since moving to BC, dyke trails are often recommended, but those aren't really challenging enough - they are mostly flat, though the gravel is too tricky for a road bike.

Before I get any further, let me make it clear that this trip takes place entirely in Germany, and Saxon-Switzerland has nothing to do with Switzerland, other than the mountains. Comparing My Summer Training Regimens (So Far)
Every year I hesitate to sign up for races, knowing I haven't really trained to the levels I used to, and knowing I won't perform to the levels I used to. My wife always encourages me to sign up, because she thinks with the carrot of an upcoming race (and the stick of the spent fees) I'll train more, and thus be happier about my health, less stressed, and have something to look forward to.

A June of Firsts Part 3: A Ride Around Stanley Park Seawall
I heard the Stanley Park Seawall has a dedicated bike path that only travels in one direction so I thought it would be nice to ride it as a family. We had to do a pick-up in Delta in the late afternoon anyway, but it did mean our ride would be time-bound. I found lots of potential routes - while the Seawall path itself is clear, finding an accessible starting point with parking is up for some debate.

A June of Firsts Part 2: The Grouse Grind (a.k.a Masochist Father’s Day)
I wanted an active, but fun family outing for Father's Day and after some consultation, we decided to go to Grouse Mountain, partially because the Observatory is a fine dining establishment where we could get a good meal to commemorate the day. When you book a table, the gondola ride is included in the meal price, so it's a good deal.
