As the russian government increasingly needs to borrow to fund its deficit spending, this number will go up along side it. Basically it's now funding its own debt by issuing short term bills, which get bought by the banks, who then sell it back to the central bank. That works, untill it doesn't.

Hm. Interesting. In most cases: There is a bang and people begin recording. This is such a case, those explosions appear to be relatively far away from the person recording (see other footage from the event).

Russia once kept Central Asia supplied with fuel. Now it’s struggling to keep its own planes in the air. Latest RUSI Commentary by Stanimir Dobrev (@delfoo.bsky.social) examines how Ukraine’s refinery strikes are hitting Moscow’s finances and regional ties.

Ukraine Has Imposed a Kerosene Shortage on Russia

Ukrainian drone strikes on refineries have caused a Russian kerosene shortage, disrupting flights, draining the budget and pushing Central Asian partners towards other suppliers.

In another example that Russia's refining problems are far from over the Russian government is considering banning the export of LPG. For those who missed the stream we did this Sunday last week LPG was in short supply in a few places and most notably in Mari El.

That test would be conclusive but it generates waste too. Its waste needs separating from the rest and disposing of in another way. In the end the solutions will almost certainly receive the same waste code („solution from metal treatment“) from the representative at the disposal company.

000

The art isn’t just extracting a metal from ore, it is re-using your reagents until they‘re worthless and need to be processed for waste. Because I already have identified a high probability of copper in the rock I should test a tiny sample with ammonia (deep blue hue would be a definite indicator).

100

Late afternoon: The yellow was still visibly present, but a light blue hue was visible too. That‘s the copper in the ore which is also slowly taken up by the solution. As always I‘m separating and labelling all my procedures and will bring my waste to a company for disposal.

100

It instantly took on a yellow colour which began to fade in the sunlight. What is happening in solution is the removal of iron (and other) ions into a complex with the oxalic acid which turns it yellow. Sunlight (UV-A radiation or a radical, like a peroxide) breaks down the Fe complex.

100

In the past days it has been sitting in a weak and cold (outside) oxalic acid solution. Oxalic acid is a common reagent used by rock hounds to remove limonite and other iron staining from quartz crystals.

100

Was quite the event yesterday:

000

Here is another sample of the same rock. The black material is most probably a mineral containing manganese. The brown bits are leftover limonite, the yellow stuff needs pricking with a needle to identify it. The blue spot indicates there are more metals next to iron and manganese in it (copper).

Macro of a rock. Light brown surface (quartz with impurities).
Black „creepers“ on the surface are usually connected to manganese.
A tiny spec of yellow material (it appears to be round, not jagged) is lying on top of the black stain.
A light blue spot (right side) could be an indicator for copper.

100

Won‘t get into the discussion anymore. There‘s that‘s the post.

I kindly advise you to look into who the Spoon Lady is. She has lived a very interesting life and began playing the spoons back when she was hopping freight trains with other like minded people.

Long thread on all the regions that had major fuel shortage news last week. I want to point out that in places Diesel sales were limited and in some places gas stations were completely out of all fuel.

These tanks may at first appear tiny but in fact are are enormous and built of steel | reinforced concrete | steel and a floating lid of >22m on a reinforced concrete foundation.

010

In past events they seem to release a havarised tank to something resembling a burn pit. I wonder if this is the case here too. Referring to: Feodosia, Proletarsk, Ust-Luga and a refinery fire @ a site where leadership apparently care about their damage control team.

Russian grain exports via the Caspian have ground to a halt as the Russian ports on the sea are clogged with cargo and loading is proceeding much slower due to the low level of the sea. Vessels are now waiting idle for over 2 weeks because of these issues.

If it is a metal: The needle will deform it If it is a mineral: The needle won’t leave a dent, but it could cause the material to break

000

I‘ve not come to a final conclusion on the makeup of what today is brown material. I have assumptions about the yellow stuff, but it has to prove itself tomorrow before I drink a coffee. Poking it with a needle will give me the final impression of the properties of the yellow mineral (or metal 🤞)

100

Here is a close-up which explains my line of reasoning presented in the past posts. The grey-translucent quartz was once liquid. As a liquid, it acts as a reagent and solvent. It led to the migration of at least one mineral from what today is brown gunk.

Detail of mineralised quartz. Grey band is slightly translucent quartz, left and right there are contact zones where the quartz and host rock reacted with each other.

100

Note that those yellow specks are tiny and extracting it from this kind of ore is a bloody nuisance. Separating it by specific gravity in a pan or shaker table probably won‘t yield much because a substantial part of it is in the brown gunk as an impurity. Nice specimen, nonetheless.

If you‘ve got bored teenagers in hand you could take them out for a walk along a river. Each with protective eye wear (etc.) and a hammer. Let then whack a few rocks.

130

Hm. Well I wonder. It usually isn’t what I think it is but this could be an exception. When I broke the rock I left it the largest bit where it is (this is very hard and dense rock). A family came by, their bored pre-teen has a specimen with a lot more mineralisation than what you can see here:

the photo was taken about 150m away from a few very tall trees. I could swear one of them buzzed me beneath them in spring when they apparently build a first nest, often in parks and in settlements. Impressive dance of the hornets. Not sure if brutal mating ritual or rivalry.
