And that assumes your organization even tries to ensure your KPIs are obtainable within your team and don't get tanked by larger happenstance. Since I became a developer, all the "reward" has gone to people chasing after shiny objects, not the people keeping the lights on. Only more true now.

I've had people compare being able to design mobile applications is "black magic". This is just "accessible" "black magic". They have no idea what the trick is, the patter that sells the trick, they just go, "Ooooh, look what I can do!", ignoring they've just typed in a prompt.

I have no problem with grinders. My problem lies with grinders who get way too pissy. Fortunately in my area it seems like a very small minority (since I don't count dropping at X-2 as pissy) but a couple of people of that ilk can ruin the competitive feeling.

Resident software engineer here: Literally that is what companies are doing. While I am on leave (still), I have heard from a co-worker that my company is trying to have 50% of code reviews done by AI and automatically merged by end of year. Ignore the fact the systems have already been breaking.

Also, I never heard Wikipedia referred to as slop. Teachers would, rightfully, just say it is unciteable due to its nature and the good teachers would say you can look at the citations of Wikipedia to get to more primary sources. That is just the nature of (emphasis) public documentation, not slop.
