@jessew I say all that, I'm still annoyed I can't hit above like F4 💔 my singing career as a soprano is ruined 🥀

@jessew the voice analysis software can't decide in my natural voice, and if I fiddle with my larynx it goes either way lol. It's mostly BS anyway, people judge on way more cues than just pitch and resonance and the cues they use change from person to person

@RustyNova coincidentally Sable basically has pluralkit built in.

@RustyNova I mean last time this happened we straight up tripled in size. As the need is increasing, people are coming across and building the stuff they miss - and even better stuff. Sable is an example of this happening - the project started in February this year lol.

Took my forge offlien again, used it as an opportunity to test & deploy a new ruleset which seems to be effective for now
Another request graph showing requests peaking at 180 requests/second. At the end a spike in 418 challenges is visible

RE: tldr.nettime.org/@tante/11728158802… That one time I went viral for calling out a multi-billion dollar company and all I got was 200 mastodon followers, a journalist in my DMs and the slight annoyance of people who have large amounts of money

I don't know how the web, collectively, is going to recover from this. The baseline requirements to exist as anything more complex than a static site have shot up so massively, with this "internet background radiation" happily swallowing up everything it can get its jaws around

Other places I talk with are having it far worse - with the equivalent of multiple full dedicated servers JUST serving bot requests despite their protections being aggressive enough to constantly catch real users in the crossfire with IP blocking (something I'm not willing to do right now).

All of this is with a go-away config running various checks and rules, POW on certain endpoints, header rules to catch fake Chrome instances and so on that worked in the past. I'm told that they're running full-fat headless Chrome instances now, and there's no way to block them without blocking […]

At this point my server was under other load, but they kept hammering it till it fell over and then hammered it some more. Which was annoying, because real people were trying to use it at the time.
A graph starting at 16:00 and ending at 17:00. A green line representing 200 responses gently slopes up from 20 req/s to 65 req/s. It then suddenly drops, and is replaced with a spike of purple representing 499 (client ended request). This rises up to 200req/s.

I haven't really posted about it, but the bots have been getting worse recently. In the past couple of months they've started bypassing protections that were effective for more than a year previously and hitting peaks of 160 requests per second against my forge […] [Original post on tech.lgbt]
A graph showing 2xx requests from last December to today. The graph is mostly flat, below 1req/s until 06/01, where it moves up to 2.5req/s. Suddenly, at 08/01 it spikes to 7.5rew/s before dipping and then rising to 15req/s, where it remains

OK I had a look at the steam frame and this seems like it could actually be crazy for FPV content recording? With the dual 5k60 HDR cameras plus the fact that it's running a full Linux system that you could probably hook digital viewfinders for other cameras up to as well

It's so so important as software developers we don't forget that we aren't working on a production line - what we do is creative work, is art, and artists are our siblings in persuit.

Computer code is not art. It has no aesthetic quality. It's generally not even seen and frequently hidden.

It's engineering - you don't need to get all up yourself by claiming to be "artists".

And the idea that something isn't art because it's there for a purpose or because you, as an audience member, don't see it is ridiculous!
Jade posted:

Far more to art exists than what you see as an audience member - when you watch a film, you do not know or care about the camera the cinematographer used, but it shapes what you experience. When you go to a live music show, you can't hear the cues and countdowns in the performer's ears that make sure everything happens in perfect time, but they are as essential to the performance as the lights that colour the stage. And yet it is a part of the art nonetheless - something does not have to be seen to have meaning or to be part of a performance.
