Proud Canadian. I value truth, I think the bad guys of WWII are bad, and I hate stupidity. These traits make me a liberal by default.

Oh good. If he claimed it, that's fine. The man notoriously claims true things a lot.

We need to put these officials in prison, to make sure no official ever dares to attack children like this again.

Hey, Thom? Thom. Thommy boy. *snaps fingers* Over here. Thom. Nobody cares, Thom. Secretly hating the evil guy while you support every evil thing he does is mechanically no different from enthusiastically supporting him. Personally disliking him doesn't make his victims less dead.

This is like printing "Why having a completely virus-free country is not helping Trump" in 2020.

Yup. People always say go along, accommodate, compromise, etc. What I always say is we're all in a lifeboat and these fascists want to drill ten holes in the bottom of the boat. Compromising on five holes gets everybody killed. Conceding to two or one? Same result, just slower. You can't allow any.

The GOP is also stopping your taxes from paying your own medical bills and closing hospitals in your town, in case Brianna Lyman's keeping score.

Trump: I'm going to do a good thing. Media: He has never done the good thing before, but we can only assume he's telling the truth. Trump: I'm going to do an evil thing. Media: He has always done the evil thing before, but we can only assume he's lying.

It's exactly the kind of stunt he'd pull, too. Then he gets to take the credit for taking Trump down and make himself look like an actual reasonable authority figure.

Jack Smith: There is conclusive proof Trump did massive crimes against America. Senate GOP: We don't care that Trump did crimes, and will continue to help him get away with it. Also Senate GOP: How DARE you insinuate that we couldn't be trusted to preserve evidence against Trump?

I answer with dead silence. Most bots register me as an inactive line and hang up after a few seconds. Really pissed off that one guy who was legitimately phoning to offer me a job, though.

I come from a Biblical background, and buddy on the right is an idiot. In context that's not what's being said either time. What the Bible *does* say is that a husband's job is to lead, by... caring for his wife and placing her needs above his own as much as possible.

Guess it has to be morally binding. Can't be legally binding because the idiot spelled the name of his country wrong on the document.

According to their logic, if a pathetic ugly dork named Benny Johnson is given fame and money by gullible fools, he doesn't stop being a pathetic ugly dork. I guess what I'm saying is, there's valid points being made on both sides.

Imagine what a corrupt POS you have to be for "I released a child predator after two months" to be the lie you tell to make yourself look better.
020
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
It's hilarious that he was like, "I can't tell them he served 29 days, because they'll think I'm too soft on child predators. But if I say I let the guy out after 60 days, that oughta convince them that I'm a law and order guy."
010
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Incorrect. Impeachment means putting Republicans on the record saying that they officially do not care about crimes and will allow any and every criminal act from this president. That will come in handy when they start crying about the next tan suit.

Gotcha. Is there evidence to suggest that that particular ideology is prevalent in Texas specifically? Or that their discomfort with trans kids in sports is considered a make-or-break issue for them?

It was a slip of the tongue by a stroke victim. Fetterman sucks noodles, but there are enough legitimate reasons to trash him, we don't need to use bad faith tactics like that.

Man, remember that time last week when the press sort of stood up to him a tiny bit because they had no real alternative, and folks like me pointed out that they weren't brave, they were complicit in enabling this every step of the way? They're right back to the cowardice.

Very cool that we can specify, "That group of rapists in the news this week, the ones who basically got away scot-free despite being unambiguously guilty," and still have it not be clear *which* group of rapists we're talking about.
021
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Do you have evidence to back up that assertion? Because I've never seen evidence suggesting that those socially conservative Dems exist or that they'd see trans issues as their tipping point. If you can demonstrate that, I'll admit that you're right.
120
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Four or five. Ask me how many of them say they'd vote for Talarico if he was only on the "correct" side of that issue?
110
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Instead of pointing out what a statistical non-issue these things are, Talarico granted the dishonest Republican framing that it's an immediate pressing issue with dire consequences. Divinding his base to appeal to the same mythical rational GOP voters Harris courted in 2024 seems stupid to me.
130
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
You're right, Texas is more conservative than some parts of Canada. Alberta and Saskatchewan are very socially conservative. There were ways for Talarico to easily navigate and reframe culture war issues with facts and data, which Talarico has done in the past. 1/2

Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Good, good. Next time say that kind of thing instead of assuming that because I'm Canadian I didn't study American politics in grad school, haven't been dedicatedly following them for the past decade and don't have friends on the ground in Texas whom I talk to about Texan politics specifically.

Tell me you know absolutely nothing about psychiatry, people with psychiatric issues, or how mental health care in America works without telling me you don't know how any of those things work. Then pivot to something else, to really show me how much you don't understand.
010
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Even from a political standpoint, the correct answer is, "The world is literally on fire, America is building concentration camps, data centers are crippling every neighborhood they're in, and you're wasting everybody's time whining about advantages for nine trans kids? What's wrong with you?"
180
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Friendo, Talarico even opining on this as if it's a real issue was a mistake. If you add the 2019 college football players named Tyler Williams (five) to the ones named Tyler Johnson (four, making nine total), you have the number of trans college athletes in any sport in all of America today.

Then it needs to become that cut and dried. Psychiatrists can and do make those evaluations already. Trump devotees are mentally ill and a danger to themselves and others. Barring them from voting stops them from doing any more damage while the repair work begins.

The phrase "accusing him" here is funny, because it's like accusing Travis Kelce of marrying Taylor Swift. He did do that, very publicly, and he's proud of doing it. Nobody is disputing this. There's no accusation there.
000
Unstable Genius @anunstablegenius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I'm never gonna stop being angry at Talarico for that. There's no reason to cede any ground to Republicans on this issue. Even if they weren't objectively lying about what gender affirming care is, they'd still be wrong and evil. He's stabbing his own voters to court bigots who won't vote for him.

Genuinely, you disenfranchise them as being mentally unfit to vote. Someone who is incapable of accurately perceiving reality can be denied voting rights, and the sheer amount of denial and delusional thinking expressed by diehard cult members should be considered disqualifying in the same way.
