The GOP is actively working to deny voting rights because they're scared to lose power. Like it or not, power in U.S. politics is binary, so we either vote against the GOP or we concede power to them. Everything worth fighting for is a harder fight under GOP control.

So there's no policy difference at all between Vivek and Acton? They're just both going to support Trump running full fash?

I'm against fascism, which is being led by Trump and the GOP here in the states. Conceding ANY ground to the party already in control tightens their hold. If my options are choosing between guaranteeing they maintain power or having a chance at fighting back, I'm choosing the fight.

Focusing so much on every little niche within the bigger fight that we lose the whole picture in the process, I think. Europe is acting like it wants to turn fash again, while the U.S. slowly concedes to the fash already in place, all while the techbros clap and cheer them on.

Oh, I've been there for years Once Primary season is complete and the candidates are locked in, it's only about limiting total damage. Which fight is easier, pushing Dems to the left or pushing GOP to the left?

anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
And Vivek has already promised to push the Trump agenda as hard and fast as he can. Harm reduction principles state you reduce the maximum amount of harm possible to the most amount of people possible. What I'm reading today is it's better to let the damage happen. How does that help?

In saying all Erin does is report on the losses while ignoring those who are actually trying to make headway, because bad news gets people fired up better than good news.

That just kicks the can down the road. Obama was against gay marriage in 2012. If McCain had won instead, would we have seen the same results for Oberfell in 2015? Would we have had a president push for support for Trans people like Obama did? Why make the fight more difficult than it already is?

anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
So we do that, and the GOP is in power, and then what?
1010
anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
How is giving the win to Republicans and making it harder for everybody on all fronts effective in fighting back, though?
610
anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
That isn't as effective in the two party system the U.S. uses. There's no parliamentary bloc available to absorb the blow.

anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
"In your focus on the upcoming damage to the community you haven't mentioned the people who are actually making headway in that fight." is more accurate.

So let's use the Ohio Gubernatorial race as the example, where Acton consistently fails Trans people in her remarks, but Vivek is substantially worse on every front. Do we abandon everyone else being threatened by GOP -- immigrants, women, lower class, etc. -- to "teach the Dems" and let Vivek win?

anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
So what's the actual practical option when presented with a Republican candidate who votes against Trans people and a Democrat who votes against people?
840
anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I do not, but I also can't help but notice you haven't said anything about the Republicans in Florida pushing back against their anti-trans candidate and turning their support to David Jolly in the Gubernatorial race there. Why is that?

The far-right bigots gaining state power in Germany, nearly gaining power over the country in Sweden, and being in contention for control in France right now should concern everybody just as much as the rise of fascistic fantasies of those in power in the U.S..

It's 2026 and Sweden narrowly avoided a NeoNazi-esque party having the power to form a government. I hate this timeline.

I saw them live at Ultra Miami in 2017, following Chase & Status. The Prodigy closed out the Saturday night set at The Live Stage, and they rocked harder than any other live set I've ever seen. Keith and Maxim went H A R D. I think my back still hurts from that show.

DJ Shadow, Leftfield, Paul Oakenfold, Fluke, Massive Attack, and The Prodigy were the music of my teenage and young twenties years. They still are now that I'm 45, but they were back then, too.

I only learned his name when TLC called him out for plagiarizing "No Scrubs" back in 2017, and he was still happy to be English back then.

Africa isn't part of Europe. Spain is in Europe. Aside from that, players shouldn't be forced to show support for something they don't believe in. If we're going to consider footballers people to admire, we have to let them be whole people instead of political pawns.

That little weasel never should have sold another album or concert ticket after he ripped off "No Scrubs". You're already a better musician than him because you don't blatantly steal from other artists.

I futher contend that every result that does not meet the prompt conditions should be considered a failure instead of being labeled as a hallucination. The machine didn't work as it should. It's more complex;& nuanced, but at its core, thats a failure. Code that buggy shouldn't pass alpha testing.

I still contend that one of the big reasons prompts return unexpected results is because the people building these things don't under that garbage in equals garbage out applies to predictive models just as much as any other code. The lack of discernment began with the humans, conveyed to machine.

Hakeem Jeffries has nothing in his record to indicate he knows how to do anything else except watch an opportunity to do some good just ... slip away. If the Dems retake the house, they need somebody else to be Speaker.

Since the news broke last month I've read everything I could find about Ceuta. Every article about it contains the phrase "settled by Spain." So was Hispaniola. So was the state now known as Florida. So was Argentina. Can't settle somewhere that's already yours. Colonialism does that.
000
anUnrelatedThing @anunrelatedthing.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
You're right, I didn't. The Phoenicians settled the entire northern coat of Africa, included the area now known as Ceuta, 800 years before Christianity arose in the Mediterranean. There are trade records surviving from the Hellenistic period. Spain wasn't the first to "find" that area.

Because European Imperialism has been happening for hundreds of years without any regard for people who already occupy the lands they steal. No other explanation necessary.

This country never held the traitors who started a war because they wanted to keep owning people. This country never held the banking executives who crashed the economy in 2008 accountable. Accountability isn't a real thing here.

In the Wawa va Sheetz debate, I choose Wawa simply because any time I've swiped my card at Sheetz there's been zero security. No PIN, no Zip Code, just a magstripe swipe and proceed. I'm not shopping somewhere that can't get basic point of sale security right.

Lake Mead being at historically low levels means less water both up and down stream for crops, livestock, and people. That means less food for everybody. I shouldn't need a Scientific American subscription to make that connection.

What Acton and Talarico are saying on the campaign trail right now isn't in the official party platform. When The Squad was talking unity and intersectioanlism in 2018 that wasn't on the party platform either. Stop arguing in bad faith. You sound like Marco Rubio.

Every Democrat candidate who dodges a question about Trans folk, or worse, states they agree with exclusionary policies presented by Republicans are endorsing the idea that those people aren't included. Amy Acton and James Talarico are just two examples.

When Democrats justify abandoning (at best) Trans people on the grounds that they can't risk losing the election by taking an unpopular stance, there is a very simple, one-word demolition of that hypocrisy, and we all know what it is.
