Her best album, and an example of the extremely creative and interesting early-80s albums using Fairlight CMIs and other samplers (e.g. Peter Gabriel's "Security"). So good.

The real point of all the AI companies asking for a slowdown? They want to lock in perceived leads and prevent newer, faster, cheaper competitors from catching up. That's it. Establish themselves as "the only AI companies" and continue soaking investors and the government for cash.

The new Boots Riley film "I Love Boosters" is great. Highly recommended.

You know your books, you know your friends. What is better than receiving a book from someone you know who tells you "I think you would enjoy this!" ?

But given how creative you are, I bet you can make something compelling regardless. And maybe our networks will surface someone who connects with it.

At the same time, it is Yet Another Thing to Learn and Master so that the result is at the level you want. I'm at an age where there's only so much time I want to spend learning new skills when I can pay or find someone with far more skill and better ideas. But video is just inherently complicated.

And NONE of these bozos have come up with an idea or feature we didn't already do or have planned by Rhapsody 2.0. It's so disappointing.

Spotify isn't in the music business. They're in the business of getting you to pay them $20 per month. It was inevitable they'd deprioritize music given how expensive the industry made it for them. Also inevitable they'd collaborate with the industry to screw indie artists.

You could look for people who do animation (computer or otherwise), or investigate some of the visualizers and stuff that wires up to Max/MSP to video (or similar things). You can also do a lot on your own with a mobile phone camera -- there are some great tutorials for creative shots and edits.

If you want someone with a camera to shoot people, scenery, action, etc. with lighting, make-up, and the like, you probably need to spend some money. Even if you get lucky and find a person who loves your music enough to collaborate, making videos is often a complex slog.

When the entire system says "f you, we're with the billionaires and the creeps" what is left? It's like nobody has ever studied any history. For all the dystopian talk of permanent underclass and police states, the downtrodden masses eventually rise up, and at that point, it isn't pretty.

Whenever we let machines into human forms of communication, those forms of communication quickly become worthless: junk mail, spam, robocalls on landlines and mobile phones, social media...and soon, music: arstechnica.com/ai/2026/04/d...

AI tracks account for a small fraction of Deezer streams, and most are demonetized for fraud.

AdP reminds me of the Residents and Primus. They're fun and clearly talented players, but also incredibly gimmicky.

An album far ahead of its time. Grabbed me the first time I heard it. Songs are catchy, production innovative. People hated it because it wasn't THE CLASH, but that was the point. Unfortunately I also think it was all diminishing returns after this one.

Edgard Varèse was an incredibly inventive composer. Key works include "Hyperprism", "Déserts", and most importantly, "Ionisation." He looks like a mad professor and sort of was -- his father wanted him to be an engineer. He defined music as "organized sound", a description I use in my classes.

It is not just about the facts of the news, it is the presentation of the news. CNN is about 2 steps above a chumbox now, and the NYTimes has debased itself in both attitude (normalizing) and content (10 kicky shoes to help you survive global warming!)

The only people "invading" Los Angeles are Trump's goons. The Trump regime's actions are illegitimate and an abuse of presidential power. It is un-American. This is a "crisis" manufactured by the Trump administration, and their response to the crisis they manufactured is absurdly disproportionate.
