Who’s here that’s read The Expanse and accompanying novellas? I sometimes fear that we are at the start of The Churn.

A snippet of 2 year old post on Reddit by user Prodiuss. It says:

“The Churn is some event that changes the rule for the way you live without giving you a choice to participate. Old norms are uplifted, old habits are forcibly broken, and your current way of life no longer can sustain itself.

Think the great depression, the dust bowl, being a member of a gold rush town when it gets annexed into the country proper, the 2008 housing collapse.

It is in these times that you have to be nimble, smart, and decisive because if you can not find a new niche to occupy and thrive, then you will get paved over by the new paradigm and forgotten.”

Charles Dickens spitting fire in 1859 about a story taking place in the 1780s with an opening that still rings relevant at the end of 2024.

The opening paragraph to A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Chapter 1: The Period. The text below reads:

Just finished @delilahsdawson.bsky.social ‘s Guillotine…wow. Talk about a book that’s um…timely… What a wonderfully subversive, righteously angry, violent, critique-cum-adventure about the perversely wealthy, entitlement, power, choice and complicity. A bloody good time! Smashing!

Ugh…all of my C&C stuff is in storage…but I do have a certain…um…cursed diary…

An old beat up book sealed with twine and a rough coin covered in odd symbols. The book lays on a handwritten note, a flyer with “MISSING” written on the top, and a piece of an old newspaper.
