No #DataCenters in #Minneapolis! PLS SHARE! There is a public hearing at the Planning Commission on Tuesday, October 13, 4:30pm. Room 350, 250 South 4th Street, Minneapolis. 2/2
The proposed regulations require data centers be at least 100 feet from a residential housing unit. This is barely the length of a basketball court and not sufficient distance from people's homes or other public uses.

We demand a 250 foot distance requirement from residences, daycares, shools, and parks.

The proposed regulations do NOT include any specific noise constraints, despite widespread evidence of significant and persistent noise disruptions from data centers.

We demand Minneapolis require data centers not exceed 60 decibels at the property boundary. The proposed regulations do NOT include any public notification requirements for data center applications.

We demand that the City require applicants proposing a data center notify residents within 1,000 feet and disclose the size, scope, and expected energy and water usage.

Created by Minneapolis Against Artificial Intelligence and Surveillance Technology (MAAST). Want to join us? Email maast_mpls@proton.meDATA CENTER REGULATION PUBLIC COMMENT

The City of Minneapolis is developing a regulatory framework for Data Centers. We need your feedback on the proposed policy.

NO DATA CENTERS IN MINNEAPOLIS

Minnesota state law says that cities can only enact temporary moratoriums - not permanent bans - on data centers. Minneapolis' six-month moratorium will expire on November 21st and we need zoning regulations so restrictive that they act as an effective ban on the big data centers that are destroying out environment and creating the physical infrastructure for artificial intelligence.PEOPLE POWER MINNEAPOLIS

In Minneapolis, we've shown that our power comes from our human relationships and deep community connections. We reject the extractive data and attention economy that separates us from each other - and benefits big corporations.

WE'RE ALREADY UNITED

The city initially proposed a number of neighborhoods for potential data centers. But immediate outrage - and more than 1,500 comments as of mid-September - forced the city to rescind that map and restrict potential data centers to two areas downtown.

NOW WE NEED TO GET SPECIFIC

Right now, data centers COULD be built in ten of the city's fifteen zoning districts because there are NO regulations. To effectively ban these harmful facilities we need to be clear about our demands: tighter regulations around size, sound, and notification to take Minneapolis off the map for big data.WE SUPPORT...

The proposed regulations say that:

No new building may be built for a data center and that data centers cannot be the only principal use on a lot.

Data centers are limited to TWO specific areas: DT1 Downtown Center and DT2 Downtown Destination.

Data centers are prohibited from the first and second floor of buildings to reduce impact on the public.

Data centers must disclose their expected use of water, electricity, and generators.BUT WE NEED STRONGER REGULATIONS...

The proposed regulations allow data centers with up to 175,000 square feet of white space. That's too big.

The average size of a data center right now is only 100,000 square feet. In the Great Lakes, only hyperscale data centers exceed 175,000 square feet, while retail data centers average less than 25,000 square feet.

We demand a cap of 25,000 square feet in Minneapolis.

KurdistanThis first edition will not be an isolated act but hopefully the beginning of a new transnational and revolutionary tradition. We intend for Mujawara Month to be an annual event. Plans are already underway for the second edition, due to take place in June 2027, which will feature a host of new developments.

Each year, two new geographies from the network will be supported to strengthen our material autonomy as well as our political complicities. To root our internationalism in the different battles that unite us. To weave our revolutionary community. To prepare our response.

Last June, our month of Mujawara mobilized thousands around the world. We are extremely touched by the echo it has created across the planet. It was really beyond our hopes. Almost 100 events took place in more than 80 cities and geographies, across at least 25 countries and 5 continents.

These actions, organized and coordinated in the span of just a few months -- sometimes just a few weeks -- send us a powerful message: that we are not alone, that our revolts have not been in vain, that there are still many of us who have not given up and that many hope to connect so that we can continue the fight together. From Bangalore to Barcelona, from Kyiv to Johannesburg, from Kanaky to Chiapas, from Bogota to Montreal, spaces, groups, and organizations have warmly answered our call to weave a "Revolutionary Neighboring Beyond Borders." Mujawara Month was an invitation to build new connections between local spaces and collectives and nourish a nascent internationalist culture.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in this global month of action. From organizing football tournaments to creating a transnational radio; from collective readings of our internationalist manifesto to concerts that lasted all night long; from cooking delicious meals for hundreds of people to screening films about our different struggles -- you made Mujawara your own, in countless ways. From China to Syria, actions and gatherings were organized under the radar. From Madagascar to France, beautiful physical items were created to amplify the resonance of Mujawara beyond the month of June. From Scotland to Chile, the discussions organized opened the space to imagine future mobilizations.

Mujawara allowed us to physically come together knowing that from those spaces we inhabit, we are joining an international movement in the making. A movement that is anchored in diverse territories and fueled by the intersections of our struggles. A movement that is anchored in diverse territories and fueled by the intersections of our struggles. A movement that has the capacity to coordinate across languages and timezones, between diasporas and groups at home, exiled communities and long-standing local struggles.Beyond strengthening our capacity to coordinate, creating and reinforcing existing connections, learning about each other's struggles and discussing what can be done together, Mujawara was an opportunity to practice concrete solidarity. The money raised through the different events around the globe will go towards supporting Syrian and Sudanese revolutionaries. New places for Mujawara, new territorial anchors for the network and an increased capacity to resist the ongoing storm.

As our call has already stated: "This moment is but a step -- yet a decisive one: that of the slow but unwavering construction of a grounded material power, linking across the four corners of the planet the fragments of our nascent strength."

Indiana Storm Recovery

For nearly two weeks after historic storms knocked out power across Indiana, thousands of residents in a predominantly Black community went without critical services like electricity, water, and food. Now, the MAJORITY of residents have received power again with less than 500 still living without power. However, the community is now vulnerable to harm in the case of another disaster. In the absence of an equitable response, it's neighbors and grassroots mutual aid networks who are keeping each other alive: running pop-up kitchens and donation hubs, distributing supplies door-to-door, and checking in on elders as mobile medics. We know from experience that we save each other.
