Can I recommend the new Arrow UK blu of “The Assassination Bureau”? Oliver Reed, Telly Savalas and Diana Rigg (wow!) in glorious Technicolour. Rip-roaring Edwardian good fun. Ace extras too! @purecinemapod.bsky.social @bobfreelander.bsky.social @elrickane.bsky.social

“Strongly advise”! Just off a train that returned to London. And we’re stuck on the platforms!

A fine Sunday afternoon at the BFI with a first time watch of Piccadilly (1929) dir by EA Dupont as part of the current Anna May Wong season. Glamorous & gritty 1920s London & a groovy often jazzy soundtrack. A recommend. @purecinemapod.bsky.social @bobfreelander.bsky.social @elrickane.bsky.social

Enjoyable day travelling from Catania in Sicily to Rome. On Frecciarossa 9658 (to Milan) from Villa San Giovanni to Roma Termini. The FR option isn’t listed on the site so thought it might be useful info. Ace journey along the coast! Thanks for all the useful info! @seatsixtyone.bsky.social

@elrickane.bsky.social Just in case, “The Dead Thing” was recommended by Kim Newman in this month’s UK Empire magazine (Issue 442 - July ‘25).

Can I recommend “The Saragossa Manuscript” (1965)? Part of the current BFI season “The Long Strange Trips of Wojciech Jerzy Has”. This intertwining tale is long, strange, trippy and superb! @purecinemapod.bsky.social @bobfreelander.bsky.social @elrickane.bsky.social

A cool film night at the fab Rio Cinema in Dalston. The first all-British disco film (!) “The Music Machine”. London looks 70s gritty! Ace soundtrack. Coming from Severin! Alan Jones’ new book Discomania is great too! @elrickane.bsky.social @bobfreelander.bsky.social @purecinemapod.bsky.social

Just really enjoyed the Westploitation “Take A Hard Ride” (1975) dir by Anthony Dawson in the BFI Black Rodeo season. Stars Jim Brown, Lee Van Cleef, Fred Williamson and Jim Kelly. Superb. A @newbeverly.bsky.social fav? @purecinemapod.bsky.social @bobfreelander.bsky.social @elrickane.bsky.social

Just had a first viewing of John Singleton’s “Rosewood” (1997) as part of the “Black Rodeo” season at the BFI. I wasn’t aware of the story. A powerful shocking film. Recommended. @purecinemapod.bsky.social @bobfreelander.bsky.social @elrickane.bsky.social

Can I recommend this year’s BBC Ghost Story for Christmas? “Women of Stone” is an adaption of “Man-Size in Marble” by E. Nesbit and is directed by Mark Gatiss. It’s rather creepy and the Victorian settings look ace. @rebekahmckendry.bsky.social @elrickane.bsky.social @colorsofthedark.bsky.social
