In the month of September I read 11 books. Only 2 of those were for my reading challenge. Some of you are aware that we recently learned that my father has cancer and is now on palliative care. I am on leave from work while I help him navigate this new reality.

The better the book, the more annoyed I get at these minor copy editing errors. This one is particularly grating.

Spending a lot of time sitting in a hospital room with my father and can’t focus on anything that requires even a little effort. Looking for a book that will do a lot of the work for me. Hoping one of these will do the trick. Any other suggestions?

Canada literally has two Conservative parties right now. Conservatives and the extra weird Conservatives. Democracy!
National Post headline (on Yahoo?? For some reason??) by Tristin Hopper (who is a freak!) reads:

"Mark Carney's support surge coming largely from former Conservatives, poll finds"

Opening text of the article reads: "Prime Minister Mark Carney's sustained surge in the polls is coming predominantly from former Conservatives, according to new figures published by the Angus Reid Institute.
According to a new poll published on Thursday, 13 per cent of respondents who voted Conservative in 2025 would now vote for a Carney-led Liberal party if given the chance."

Curious to see what others think of this. I loved Library at Mount Char and went into his new book with a lot of hope. I tried very hard to love it, but I just didn’t. There was great promise here of a more horror filled Richard Adams, but it felt more like a darker version of Warrior Cats.

Reading The Dead Zone now in print and just started King Sorrow as my current audiobook. Had no idea when I started KS that it was set in the same world and time as The Dead Zone. Good thing I had already seen the movie or KS would have spoiled some things for me. They’re both great so far. 💙📚

The dilemma. Travelling for a few days and need to take enough books with me to have reading for the trip, but the more books I take with me the less space I have in my bag to bring new books home. How many books is enough for 3 nights and 4 days? 💙📚

We should very much want the people who populate the governments, institutions, and corporations that mostly run our world to be humane and empathetic.

Libraries make us a harder target for authoritarianism. Equal access to info, ideas, and space that doesn’t require a purchase to belong. Also: using the library means money stays in your community instead of streaming out to Amazon. 📚 What’s checked out on your card right now?
