This is the sovereign UK government. If it can issue compulsory purchase notices, it can tell whatever industries it wants that they're being nationalised. Labour has already started this process by not renewing lapsed licences & bringing several franchises back into government control.

It's not me negotiating, but what I'd personally do is to allow them to fail & buy them back for £1. The shareholders have made it plain by their reluctance to invest or bail out the utilities, that they don't care. They've ALREADY far surpassed their original investments with huge share dividends.

There are also trade deals done where the UK will buy oil from partners, in exchange for products & services. The licences have been issued by the UK Government. As we've seen previously, if they wish to nationalise or renationalise an industry, it's just a case of adequate compensation. The Tories sold the UK's family silver to their mates, & have fingers in every pie sold too, hence why we're where we are

Oil produce & oil are two different things Scenario: You grow fruit & veg on your allotment & sell each produce at 10p per kg. Then you nip down to ASDA & buy back what you sold for 80p per kg. Simplistically, this is what the UK's doing with NSO. We make £6bn pa from licences. How much to BP earn?
