In the world of the #autonomic nervous system, medical symptoms turn out to be one of nature's building blocks. Future #medicine may not be complete without this list of ANS-mediated symptoms. ansyme.substack.com/p/symptoms-a... #neuroskyence #neurosky

Our monthly articles will resume in the Fall, but #autonomic #neuroscience with medical potential has not slowed down in the Summer! We began posting regular short notes about recent research, which are recapped here: ansyme.substack.com/p/summer-of-... #neurosky #neuroskyence

Imagine losing your voice rapidly. That's motor neurone disease (MND), aka ALS. Today is Global MND Awareness Day. At Redenlab, we measure speech changes early and accurately, because every trial deserves the science to back it up. For everyone living with MND. For everyone who loves them. 🧪🧠📈
21st June is Global MND Awareness Day. MND robs people of their voice. We're working to track every change.

1 in 300 people will develop MND in their lifetime. No cure and few effective treatments exist today. Our focus.

Speech is one of the first things MND takes. Objective, early measurement of changes is key.

We measure speech biomarkers that detect subtle changes, before they become visible on standard assessments.

We partner pharma and international consortia to strengthen evidence for tracking treatment response in ALS/MND.Our ALS/MND Work: putting science behind the standard of care.

- Published scoping review on speech treatment for dysarthria in ALS.
- Validating speech as a trial endpoint with global pharma & opnion leaders.
- Advancing protocols for decentralised trials, no clinic visit is required.Every voice matters. Our MND community deserves better tools and faster answers.

I learned a lot while writing this article! Turns out there's significant interaction between neurons and cancer cells. I hope you find it illuminating, and I really hope that more funding goes toward understanding the role of the ANS in a variety of medical conditions.

~2 years ago, @alleninstitute.org released whole-brain "atlases", counting the number of cell types in each region. They showed high cell type density in the lower/deeper brain regions, the main hubs of the #autonomic nervous system. What could this signify? ansyme.substack.com/p/hypothalam...

Luke Brown was led to neuroimmunology not by buzz, but by questions arising from his clinical mentors and by pursuing a trail of experiments. We're pleased to share his account of how this led to a 2024 publication in Cell Press: ansyme.substack.com/p/the-silent... #neurosky #neuroskyence
